ParticipantSteve,
We’ve used the “Department” filed to input a numeric “order by” number so that attorney profiles within various categories (Parnters, Associates, Of Counsel) can be ordered by attorney seniority rather than alphabetical or date entered order.
Thus the Connection generated vcard includes this number.
Is there a better way to custom order profiles that will not add the data to the vcard OR is there a way to hide the Dept. field we’re using for ordering from inclusion in the vcard?

You could use this method to sort on a custom meta field instead:

Hope that helps!

ParticipantThat worked perfectly Steven.
Another question for you:
On both our “Attorneys” Gridder page and our “Directory” page, we are clustering people by categories. Each chunk has it’s own shortcode and we have one common search.
However, we’ve set the category titles in the pages above the shortcodes. The issue is that “Parnters” then appears above the search and/or category dropdown, sort of disconnecting if from the content.
Are we able to display the actual category name via the shortcode so that this doesn’t happen…so that the search tools are above category name?
You can see on this page, how the category/search features are appearing between “Partners” and the folks headshots. http://ccshkt.com/our-attorneys/
And, on this page you can see again how “Partners” is above the search. http://ccshkt.com/directory/

There’s not really a way to do this easily. The easiest is kind of hacky.. add the following CSS to the theme’s custom CSS area:
#cn-gridder form.cn-form { position: absolute; top: -70px; display: block; width: 100%; } #cn-slim-plus form.cn-form { position: absolute; top: -80px; display: block; width: 100%; }Basically this take the form section out of the normal document flow and uses positioning to sort of wedge it between the neaders.

ParticipantYeah. That is something we thought about but it may cascade into some funky handling for mobile as well.
We don’t really have a custom css area in the admin for this theme. It is essentially a blank theme with a child theme. But I may have to make an attempt.

ParticipantA follow up to order_by…
Can you order by locality? If so, how? I tried this:
[connections str_work_phone='Office Phone' str_work_addr='Street Address' str_other_addr='Mailing Address' category='3' order_by='locality|ASC']but it still displays the individuals in alpha order by last name.
Thank you!

To sort by locality with the order_by shortcode option you need to use the
cityoption, like so:[connections str_work_phone="Office Phone" str_work_addr="Street Address" str_other_addr="Mailing Address" category=3 order_by="city|ASC"]In older code I used city instead* of locality and the sort option is pretty old. In many places in the old code I have aliased city and locality so they can be used interchangeably but this was never done for the sorting.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantOk, thanks. That worked. However, even though they technically display in alpha order by city, they still have the character heading that goes with their name. Is there a way to make the character heading match the sort?

re: the character heading that goes with their name. Is there a way to make the character heading match the sort?
No, my suggestion is to disable the character section headers. I’m aware of this limitation and at present it is a low priority item.
