ParticipantI need to have a directory which along with the excellent listing / category / search features of Connections allows registered users to update their entry. No problem with ‘Form’ and ‘Link’ add-on modules I hear you say! The problem comes with the fact that I need to have some additional fields such as ‘referred by’ and with some of the extra fields also offer preset choices (pick-lists)… Thoughts?

Sorry, but there is not support for custom fields. They are on my to do list, but to be honest, it is lower on the list so I can make any promises when when that feature will show up. Sorry!

GuestHi, I’m a new Customer and just bought Connections Pro-Pack. I have also need of a few custom fields like the License number of the players and if the have pay the annual charge etc… I know that there is no development for the moment for custom fields, at least could you be so kind to indicate me in wich script I use to hack?
For our handball club this is very important.
Thanks in advance for your time and answer.

This forum thread is almost a year stale … a lot has changed. The next release of Connections will have fairly comprehensive support for custom meta as well has an API to support custom metaboxes and fields.
Take a look at this post. The Business Hours extension, which is going to be released with the next update to Connections, uses the meta API and custom metaboxes and fields API.
At least two other developers are already using the development version of Connections on client sites using custom meta and fields with great success. So please feel free to pull the dev version of Connections from Github. You can refer to the Business Hours extension as to how to create and display custom meta fields.
Hope that helps.

ParticipantHi,
Just to give this stale thread some freshness, how have you been getting on with this?
I am in need of adding custom fields to my directory but not only am I unsure of how to do this, I’m not sure if it is officially a default option now?
Some help would be great please (you can’t dumb it down enough for me!!).
Thank you in advance for your help and time!

The custom metabox and field API support was release back in the end of March. I’ve released several plugins that utilitize it:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/connections-business-directory-hours/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/connections-business-directory-income-levels/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/connections-business-directory-education-levels/
and coming soon:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/connections-business-directory-languages/There not a point and click method of adding custom fields. The API is a dev level resource. If you need something specific, I can recommend a dev that has plenty of experience working with the API.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantHi Steven:
I too would like to use custom fields for several attributes of lodging properties in directory… AAA Member y/n, that sort of thing. I understand this is not point and click, but can you point me to any API docs that might help me customize this?

All the documentation is in the code itself.
Also, the links to the free extension in my previous reply, the code is well documented too.
Lastly, there is this plugin I use for testing. It basically output all the supported custom field types.
Its not documented though, but there really is nothing to it. Just the configuration array for the different custom fields types and the function to register them.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks steve. You mentioned earlier in this thread that you have can suggest a dev who is familiar with this API. A referral would be helpful, as bsinging in someone who is already up to speed will save us some time… thanks

Sorry to say but that dev has grown his own business and no longer has the available time to do custom work. Depending on what you may need, I may be able to fit this into my schedule. Please use the contact link at the bottom of the page and give me a detailed and possible explanation of what you’re looking for. If you can also do mockups, those are extremely helpful. Please paste a link to this forum thread so I can relate the two, thanks!
