s2Member does indeed hijact the login process and it must run before Link so Link never has a chance to run.
Can I get a temp admin account so I can make a very minor tweak to Link to see if it resolves the issue? Details can be posted here as a private reply.

Ok … I logged in, made the very minor edit to Link. I then opened a private browser window so I could login as *****2 [you’ll know what the stars stand for]. If I read correctly, this user was not yet linked, correct? After I logged in as *****2 and when to the edit my directory entry page, I was presented with the details from Connections entry as expected.
You want to give it a try?

ParticipantHi Steve
Thanks for this. Your change does now mean that if an Administrator creates a user and then creates a Connections entry with the same email address the association is made when the user logs in despite the S2member plugin still being active.
What is a problem though is that when a user updates the email address is duplicated. If they log out and in again the fields double again, so after two logins the email field is there four times. I think this also applies to any other field block edited, so making an edit to home address causes that block to double up too…

Yes, with S2memeber active the links should now create as expected. The data duplication issue was a permissions issue with the S2member role. I reset the role capabilities and then set the edit permission … now it seems all is well. One thing to keep in mind, after updates to Connections, you’ll have to reset the role capabilities.

ParticipantSounds like this is something that has to be done on updating / reactivating EITHER S2Member OR Connections where they are both active. Thanks for that Steve looks like we have a workable solution. I will add ‘Dashboard Site Notes’ plugin to any install that uses this combination so as to leave a reminder of this visible to admin users!

ParticipantHi Steve
To use your patch on another site should I copy all the code from connections-link/connections_link.php if that is where you made an edit?
Will you be incorporating the change into the release version too?

Yes, to migrate the fix to another site, just copy the connecitons_link.php file to the other site.
Yes, I will be adding this change to the released version. I have put out an update because I made a few other changes that still require additional testing.
