I want to create a product directory and want to ask if connections can be used to do that? The essential feature are;

1. Should be possible to select which fields are displayed in the full directory listing of all entries.

2. Should be possible for users to filter displayed entries by category and/or field types and/or tags.

3. Should be possible to click on a button to display a single full entry.

4. Should be possible to allow registered users to update either their own private entries or all entries (set up selectable).

4. A system to allow front end registering of users (i.e. those who can create or edit entries). Either integral to connections or via a third party plug-in.

It’s not the intention at the moment to turn this into a product selling site. Rather it is to allow a community of users to build up a collective product directory.

Do I need to buy a theme, or can Connection be integrated into an existing theme?

Is there any facility to have phone conversation before purchasing?

The short answer… it doesn’t seem Connections will provide the solution you’re looking for, sorry.

1. If info is not entered in a field, that field will simply not be displayed at all. Also, there are no custom fields.

2. Categories are it, no tags or such.

3. Would be possible, but a custom template more product focused rather than individual focused would be needed.

4. An entry can be linked to a single user, using Link, but not a group of entries.

5. You’d have to use a third party plugin; likely a membership plugin.

6. Connections operate independently of the theme, so you could use any theme.

I don’t know of another plugin that meets your requirements either, sorry. I think you might be in the roll you own custom solution territory.
