We’ve been tasked with building a couple of business directories for existing WP sites. In the past we wrote a custom plugin that looks at an external MySQL table and if it sees something new, it imports that record into WP (currently wp_users & wp_usermeta). In looking over your product, it appears you use your own tables for the directories. Can I assume that we can modify the plugin we wrote to write to your tables? This is a dynamic thing, someone may update their record in an external db – that db does a lot more and must be the source. So when a record is changed or added in the external db, the script would update the connection tables if possible. If this can be done, is there documentation on the tables (names, required fields, etc.)?
Also, we have clients that may want 2 completely looking directories on the same site, say one for businesses in the area (public) and one for business owners (private) to contact each other. Can multiple directories reside on the same site?
Sure, you can probably somewhat easily modify your plugin to write to Connections tables. This file has functions you’d have to use. They abstract away most of the details. These few functions are probably the two you’d need:
As for as separate directories … yes, that is possible by using categories to separate them.
Hope that helps!
