GuestHello,
I have followed the instructions on setting this directory up. Step describes how to display your content via the [connections] shortcode, but when I do this the only thing that shows up is [connections]? Is there something Im missing here?
Thank you.

Have you installed the Connections Business Directory Plugin? If you have, edit the page you added the shortcode too, switch the editor to the Text tab and remove any HTML in and or around the shortcode.
Hope that helps, let me know.

GuestYes, all this has been done. When I preview the page the only thing that shows up is [connections]? I’ve made multiple pages and changed the setting in the plugin for each page, but still no results. If we are running a local copy of wordpress on our server affect how shortcodes work?

RE: If we are running a local copy of wordpress on our server affect how shortcodes work?
Not exactly sure what you’re asking … shortcodes do not operate differently local vs server. (Local is still a server since you have a LAMP/MAMP/WAMP stack installed in order to run WP).
RE: When I preview the page
Define “preview” have you actually saved the page first, ie. a draft or published it?
If you have other plugins installed, I recommend doing the following:
The few times I’ve run across this in the past, the issue was always either Connections was not actually installed or it was installed and not activated. You’ve confirmed it was installed, can you please confirm that is activated?

GuestI guess I’m not really sure what I’m asking either, but that’s enough of an answer for me. The pages have each been published before applying any changes. Of course, once I hit update to apply changes I then select Preview Changes to see if any entries appear. So far, I’m not sure what else needs to be done? I have added entries to the table and created categories. The shortcode just isn’t functioning as it should.

Ok, so the plugin is definitely installed and activated.
Can you attach a screenshot of page being editing in the Text tab?
Also, do the conflict checks I’ve linked to. Let me know what you learn.

GuestThe themes suggestion just caused more issues for me. I switched back to the Twenty Fifteen theme and my site is working again. There are no plugins installed except Connections. Im aslo, not sure how to send you a screenshot?

Sorry to hear that! WP generally handles switching themes without issue. Perhaps that itself is an indication of a larger issue???
RE: I switched back to the Twenty Fifteen theme and my site is working again.
Does the shortcode work now?
RE: not sure how to send you a screenshot?
You have many options, here’s several site which let you share images/screenshots
These are just a small sample of those returned by doing a search for free share screenshot.
If you use Dropbox or Box.net you can share that way too. Or if you have a web host you could upload using FTP and share the link to the image.
Lastly, if you have purchased any of the premium add ons, you can login to the support forum using the same user/pass that you created during the checkout. When logged in you have permissions to attach images/docs to replies.
