ParticipantI just updated my web site to WordPress 4.8.1 and changed the theme to Vantage. I am using SiteOrigin plugins with the Vantage theme. I am using Connections version 8.6.8. I noticed that when you type my URL in and go to the site the circle icons and social widget images (e.g. facebook) are not visible. Once you click on any page they reappear. I went through the process of deactivating plugins one at a time and Connections is causing the problem. I have another warning message and I think it also might have to do with Connections. It is for the Leaflet Maps Marker version 3.12.1. Here is the message:
Warning: an active plugin or theme is also embedding the Google Maps API (script handle: cn-google-maps-api) – this can break (Google) maps and address search on backend for Leaflet Maps Marker!
Please help. Thanks so much!!

RE: I noticed that when you type my URL in and go to the site the circle icons and social widget images (e.g. facebook) are not visible. Once you click on any page they reappear.
This is not being caused by Connections. Rather is is how you site is configured. I can demonstrate:
- Clicking this link for your site, no icons: http://www.kcitalians.com/
- Clicking this link for your site, icons present: http://kcitalians.com/
Notice the difference is the
www
. When clicking any of your sites nav links, you are navigating the site minus thewww
which is why you see the icons.RE: Warning: an active plugin or theme is also embedding the Google Maps API (script handle: cn-google-maps-api) – this can break (Google) maps and address search on backend for Leaflet Maps Marker!
You can ignore this message. Leaflet Maps Marker and Connections works correctly together.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantI noticed that also (www vs. http without www) but, when I deactivate Connections the problem resolves on www. Then, when I activate Connections the problem with the www and lost icons happens again. Can you think of any reason why this is happening? Is there some way to fix it? Thanks so much!

ParticipantConnections is deactivated if you want to try the www now and see what I mean. Everything else on the site is the same. Just the connections isn’t active.

The issue is still the
www
. With Connections deactivated your site is auto-redirecting to the URL without thewww
. Look at the browser address bar after you type in your site address with thewww
. Notice that is lacks thewww
.I can not think of a single reason why Connections would care about a
www
redirect. This still points to some sort of site config issue. Check the WP General Settings and make sure the WP URL and the Site URL are set correctly. Generally they should match. In your case I would expect them to behttp://kcitalians.com
I wonder… do you by chance have the directory home page set to be the same page as your sites static front page? Check the Connections : Settings admin page under the General tab and the WP Reading Settings admin page. I would expect your directory home page to be set the the
Directory
page.08/07/2017 at 5:30 pm #431650brian1431
ParticipantHi! I just checked and both the WP URL and the Site URL are set correctly. Also the directory page is set on the correct page not the static home page. I am not sure why this is happening but, it’s just so strange the www works fine when Connections is not active. I have other sites with Connections that I plan to switch to Vantage theme.
I always use Connections when I build a site with a directory….I hope this gets figured out because I plan to use this theme from now on and I don’t want to switch directory plugins. Thanks for all of your help.Jody

ParticipantPS – When I deactivate Connections the Warning for Leaflet Maps Marker disappears but, when I reactivate Connections it appears again.
Warning: an active plugin or theme is also embedding the Google Maps API (script handle: cn-google-maps-api) – this can break (Google) maps and address search on backend for Leaflet Maps Marker!
To fix this, please either remove that additional Google Maps API call manually or enable the compatibility option “Deregister Google Maps API scripts enqueued by third parties”08/08/2017 at 11:17 am #431718Steven Zahm

RE: I hope this gets figured out because I plan to use this theme from now on
I doubt this is a conflict with the theme as the theme should not be doing the redirect. Generally this is handled in your .htaccess file. Seeing as Connections is somehow having an effect… how do you have this redirect setup? Are you using a plugin or is there actually a setting in Vantage to handle the redirect? If it is either, I very highly recommend using the .htaccess method. Using a plugin or theme option to do so is adding additional page load time because WP has to load twice in order to do the redirect. Basically this means your site has to load twice to show the page once. Using the .htaccess, WP is never loaded since the redirect is handled by the server and not WordPress.
That said…
I would like to investigate why having Connections activate makes a difference because as mentioned there is no code in Connections which cares about or should affect this type of redirect.
I did notice that this affects only the front page … no others. So that does provide a clue.
If you can give me a WP admin login and FTP login I can investigate further. The details can be posted here as a private reply.
RE: When I deactivate Connections the Warning for Leaflet Maps Marker disappears but, when I reactivate Connections it appears again.
You can ignore this message. Leaflet Maps Marker and Connections works correctly together. Leaflet Maps Marker is simply detecting Connections usage of the API and displaying you a warning that they might be conflicts.

ParticipantHi! Sorry for getting back to you so late. I contacted my hosting company yesterday and we tried a redirect. It didn’t work so, I called them today and we did a URL redirect from www to the non www domain in the .htacess file and it has corrected the problem. Thanks so much for all of your help :)
