ParticipantI must be missing something obvious. I have a directory with both individual and organization entries. I have set up a Connections home page, albeit a page not intended for viewing, and a separate page for Individuals, and another for the Organization. So far so good. But when I try to “personalize” the cMap templates for individuals and organizations, it doesn’t work. If I make a string change in the individual template, it is also made in the organization template. Not what I want.
The home connection string has only the template=”cmap” shortcode, the individual and organization pages do use more short codes.
Anyone have any insights? Or am I wrong to assume I can customize the templates?

Which strings are you changing and with what process? String changes are global when using the cMap template Customizer or when using Say What?, that is how it works.
cMap does have few strings which are template specific and can be controlled via shortcode options to change them on a per instance case. Here’s the instructions to change cMap strings with shortcode options. Scroll down a little, you see a list and examples of the strings that an be set at the shortcode level in cMap.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantI have been using the Customizer to try to change the ind and org labels: any “category” label to specialty or facility depending on ind or org template. So even though I am “customizing” an Individual cMap template it is still a global change? I should specify the label changes using cnt_cmap…
I have the following sortcodes on 3 separate pages:
[connections template="cmap"] (Home page)[connections template="cmap" category=291 enable_category_by_root_parent='TRUE' str_work_phone="Phone" show_alphaindex='TRUE' repeat_alphaindex='TRUE']
[connections template="cmap" category=356 enable_category_by_root_parent='TRUE' str_work_phone="Phone" show_alphaindex='TRUE' repeat_alphaindex='TRUE']
I’ll give cnt_cmap a try. Thank you.

RE: So even though I am “customizing” an Individual cMap template it is still a global change?
Yes, you are customizing the cMap template when using the Customizer. It does not matter how many different pages you use it on, it is still the cMap template.
Another way to frame it… think of it as your theme. You have many posts and pages, when you use its Customizer, it affects all the posts and pages, not just one page excluding page specific options the theme may add to an individual page of course.
RE: I should specify the label changes using cnt_cmap
That would still be a global change of the string.
RE:
str_work_phone="Phone"This is what I was talking about in my previous reply… you can use shortcodes to affect each instance of the template. This list of available option are found in that link I gave.
So, to change the category label you would use the
str_category_labelshortcode option. Example:[connections template="cmap" category=291 enable_category_by_root_parent='TRUE' str_work_phone="Phone" show_alphaindex='TRUE' repeat_alphaindex='TRUE' str_category_label='Specialty: ']Hope this helps!

ParticipantPut shortcodes in on the respective pages, works now. Thanks!
