ParticipantHi Having installed cMap on my system http://www.siebelhub.com/main/oracle-siebel-ecosystem-directory I notice the categories dropdown appears twice at the top of the page. How can I remove this?
the customizer has a switch to remove the search, which works, but the categories dropdown appears twice.
Thanks

ParticipantUpdate:
The changes are not saved – they appear OK in teh customizer, but the search for example is not removed (I have cleared site and browser cache)

re: the categories dropdown appears twice at the top of the page. How can I remove this?
This is being caused by the theme. There are two options. Once is to hide it with CSS. Add the following to the theme’s custom CSS area:
#cn-cmap div.select2-container { display: none !important; }The second, better, but more technical, solution is to prevent the theme from doing his in the first place.
Edit the
template.jsfile found here:../wp-content/themes/magnium/js/template.jsChange this:
$("select").select2({ allowClear: true, minimumResultsForSearch: 10 });to this:
$("select").not('.cn-category-select').select2({ allowClear: true, minimumResultsForSearch: 10 });Save and overwrite the original file (make a backup of it first).
The tough part is getting purged from the various caches so the updated file will get loaded by the browser.
re: the search for example is not removed
I just tested it and I am unable to replicate the issue. If it preview correctly in the Template Customizer, it should display correctly if the changes were saved. Could you double check it? Also, what is the exact shortcode you are using?

ParticipantHi
I tried the first (CSS) method. That didnt work I’m afraid. The second method didnt work either, even after flushing the cache on the wp instance and the browser. I cannot see any changes to the duplicate dropdown
With regards to the search box, I tried again and same, the change shows on the preview but not on the live. I am using [connections] as the shortcode.
I can give you admin access to this if you require just let me know and I will send a private message
Thanks

re: I tried the first (CSS) method. That didnt work I’m afraid. The second method didnt work either, even after flushing the cache on the wp instance and the browser. I cannot see any changes to the duplicate dropdown
This is because the server is still serving the cached versions of the file.
This is the file being served by the cache:
http://www.siebelhub.com/main/wp-content/themes/magnium/js/template.js?ver=1.0
You see that there is no change. Now, if I manually bust the cache:
http://www.siebelhub.com/main/wp-content/themes/magnium/js/template.js?NO_CACHE
You see the file with the change is be served.
Likely the same issue with the CSS too.
You need to flush the server cache. How do you do that, sorry, dunno, you’ll have to ask your host.

Very odd! If you give me an admin account, I’ll take a look.

I edited the theme so the
template.jsfile is now loaded as version 1.0.1 this will bust the server cache and now the double category select is gone:http://www.siebelhub.com/main/wp-content/themes/magnium/js/template.js?ver=1.0.1
In regards to the search… I didn’t do anything, not even visit the Template Customizer for cMap, the search is gone.
But I wanted to see if I could duplicate the issue so I went to the Template Customizer and turned it back on. The preview worked, but the page did not update, just like you were experiencing. But I know the reason now…
You are using SiteGround (I do too, great host) you have the Memcached option enabled. This caches frequent db queries. The WP options is a frequent db query and apparently the Memcached cache is not purged when Customizer options are saved. Nothing I can do about that since that is a core WP API. I’m “simply” using it to enable the Template Customizer Feature… like theme and other plugins can.
Any way, after saving changes in the Customizer, go to the admin SuperCacher page and turn off then then back on Memcached. That’ll purge the db query cached and your Customizer changes will be reflected on the site.
Hope that helps!
PS. The server cache… I had that same problem where updated CSS and JS file were not being served. I fixed it by changing something in the cPanel SuperCacher options page. I forget what I did exactly… I think it was flushing the master static cache or maybe toggling it off/on.

ParticipantAwesome stuff Steven. Thanks very much for the help understanding what is going on. I will keep a very close eye on Memcache from now on.

No problem! It is been my experience that turning off all caching when making changes to the site is best as it does eliminate a lot of hair pulling when things are not changing. Doing simple thing like adding new blog posts tend to be fine. Hope that helps!
And, if you have a moment, I would truly appreciate a review as they really do make a difference. Many thanks in advance!
