ParticipantHi steve.
thanks so much for your support in setting up my professional network here
http://www.amsn.com.au/professional-network/
As you aware i have one parent catagory ” professional network ‘ and then child catagories such as ” chiropractor “.
What I am find is that when a user registers as a chiropractor they are not automatically also added to the parent catagory of “professional network “.
I have found a reasonable simple work around by simply editing the submission before it goes live and ticking the parent catatory as well but the thought has crossed my mind,
have I missed something ?

Sorry, but there is not a way to auto categorize an entry. Are you certain you need to add them to the professional network category? I’m pretty certain that the entries assigned to a category that is a child would still be listed. I’ve have to look at the code again … connections is large enough I can’t keep it all in my head any more lol! What is the exact shortcode you’re using?

ParticipantYep I’m pretty certain. when I add an entry even manually I had to tick both the child catagory such as osteo or chiro and the Professional network catagory as well.’
the short-code im using is
[connections page_limit=50 category='1' enable_category_by_root_parent=true template="slim-plus"]

This was the code suggested by you in previous post to show only the professional network category and not other categories such accommodation.
Like a said its no biggy but I was corious if I have made a coding error
cheers steve

A quick look at my code to refresh my memory… the entries assigned to a child category should be displayed whether or not it it is assigned to the parent category.
You can post the details here as a private reply. When I login, I’ll be installing the Query Monitor plugin so I can evaluate the queries being generated and run.

Sorry, I must have missed your reply … I do not think I am properly being notified of private replies…
I just took a look. When I added a private entry to just the Chiropractor category and not the parent category and that entry showed up in the results like it should. So it seems to be working unless I misunderstand the problem. I made sure to delete the test entry.
