ParticipantHi, just purchased the slim template and the form plugin… this is a great product.
So a few questions, I’ve searched all of them here and on google and not sure if the search is just not finding them or if they have not been asked or I’m just missing something obvious.
My goal is to make my good customers get preferential treatment and be at the top of the category displays. I have those customers in 3 categories. An all category, a state category and another category called “featured”.
Ultimately this is how I’d like things to work…
When you go to the initial page. I’d like to only display the “featured category” but have people be able to use the category search by state or all.then when you click on a state, say NJ, the output would be people with the categories NJ AND Featured first and then just NJ.
Also there is a text link at the very top of the page that says View All, how do I remove that, as it’s also available in the category dropdown, since I have every user in a category called “all”.
thanks!

re: When you go to the initial page. I’d like to only display the “featured category” but have people be able to use the category search by state or all.
You can use the category shortcode option to set the “featured” category as the sudo default.
Selecting categories from the drop down will still work correctly, however, searches would be limited to the “feature” category. To get around that, see this.
re: when you click on a state, say NJ, the output would be people with the categories NJ AND Featured first and then just NJ.
I’m assuming that the featured will be only those that are in NJ, correct? This one is a bit more tricky and I do not have a known working way to do this, but I do have an idea…
You can use this method to create a custom order Except you would want to use this shortcode:
[connections order_by="meta_key:order|NUMERIC_ASC,sort_column"]
For “featured” entries you should set them to
1
and the not “featured” to0
.My guess this will work, giving you the results you want, but I’ve never tried it. You’ll have to let me know how it goes.

ParticipantHey Thanks the first couple things work like a charm.
The second one sounds like it will work fine as well but I’m not sure I want to have to go in by hand and add the meta key order info for each person at the bottom of each record. I am using form so people are adding their info themselves and all I have to do is approve. I’m worried I might forget one here and there since it’s at the bottom and then from what I read it won’t show up at all.
Unless I’m understanding it wrong, there is no way to default everyone to 0 and then just change the ones I want to come up first to a 1? If that was the case then even if I forgot, they would at least show up, just not first.
thanks!

Right, there is no way to default a custom meta key and value (well, there is, I’ll come back to that). I’m pretty certain that you need to add it in order for them to display as a result when using the custom sort. You could give a try without it and see if it works or not… I can’t not remember for sure off the top of my head.
Back to defaulting a meta key/value on new entries, this is possible but would require a custom extension to add that feature. If this interests you, it could be done for a reason fee.
