ParticipantHi Steven,
I’m currently developing a site that uses the cMap template. Is there a way to display a list of subcategories? I’d like to be able to display a specific category’s children/sub-categories in a nice grid view.
If there’s not a shortcode available, could you point me in the right direction on how to customize the template?

Here’s a function you can use:
cnTemplatePart::walker()Here’s the link to where you can find it in the code:
You will probably be most interested in the term-list walker.
The options array that can be passed for the term-list is documented in this file:
This is pretty robust and well documented in the code so that should get you going in the right direction.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks @Steven!
Now, can you please tell me if I’m going in the right direction?
I found in cmap.php where I can change the categories list to display as checkboxes or links instead of a dropdown. But I had envisioned creating a new template view (similar to card) that lists the categories (instead of entries). Would that be possible?
Also, I’d like to show which categories an entry is listed under. Would that use the same function?

Do you have the Widget Pack? You could use the category widget as a shortcode and then use CSS to tweak the display how you want. I have not yet documented how to use a widget as a shortcode, but it is pretty easy…
The Widget Pack adds a new sidebar name “Connections: Widget Shortcodes” to the theme, one that is never displayed. It is only used to add and configure Connections’ widgets to use as shortcode.
What you would do is add the category widget to this sidebar, configure it to display the categories you want and it’ll give you a shortcode that you can add to a page where you want the widget to be displayed. This multi-widget compatible so you could add multiple category widgets, each configured differently.
This might be an easier working solution? Does that help?

ParticipantThat sounds great! I’ll try that now.
Thanks, @Steven!
