ParticipantA lot of people use the employee Connections directory on our intranet but some people like to print off an abbreviated “contact sheet”. This sheet is maintained separately at this time which is basically double the workload if anything changes.
So I was wondering if there was a way to use the data entered into our Connections directory to create a secondary directory. Something that could be printed?

I have a new template cross extension named List View. Used as an extension, it adds a configurable list view, view to all templates. When you click the link for the list view you have action buttons which copy the list to the clipboard, print it or save it. Used as a template, it simply displays the list with the action buttons.
I’m thinking this might be exactly what you need. Which fields do you need it to display? Right now it shows these:
- Name
- Honorable Prefix
- First Name
- Middle Name
- Last Name
- Honorable Suffix
- Contact Name
- Title
- Organization
- Department
- Addresses
- Address Line 1. (Preferred or first only.)
- Address Line 2. (Preferred or first only.)
- Address Line 3. (Preferred or first only.)
- City. (Preferred or first only.)
- State. (Preferred or first only.)
- Zipcode. (Preferred or first only.)
- Country. (Preferred or first only.)
- Phone Numbers
- Phone Number. (Preferred or first only.)
- Email addresses.

ParticipantOur current contact sheet is very abbreviated. At least compared to what we keep in our Connections db. We only need Name, Department, Extension, Direct Line and Mobile number.
We’ve remapped all the phone numbers to get them into the spots we want but hopefully that won’t affect anything.

Looks like the List View template would nearly meet your needs… I think.
How is the Direct Line and Extension captured in the remapped fields, meaning what were the original fields.
I’m guessing the Mobile Number is simply the cell number, correct? If that is the case, I would need to add that as a field option in the List View.

ParticipantThis is how I have them remapped in the short code on my current contacts page…
str_home_phone=’Work Phone’
str_home_fax=’Extension’
str_cell_phone=’Direct Line’
str_work_phone=’Cell Phone’
str_work_fax=’Home Phone’And yes, Mobile = Cell. Sorry.

Ok, I see… I had to add the following fields (in addition to the existing fields) to list view so it would work for you:
- Phone: Home Number. (Preferred or first only.)
- Phone: Home Fax Number. (Preferred or first only.)
- Phone: Mobile Number. (Preferred or first only.)
- Phone: Work Number. (Preferred or first only.)
- Phone: Work Fax Number. (Preferred or first only.)

ParticipantSo when/how can I get this? I’d love to try it out.

The product page is here:
http://connections-pro.com/add-on/list-view/
There’s nothing on it yet as that part is still a work in progress but you can buy it now and still get all the updates like normal.
I attached a couple screenshot from my test db showing the fields you need. My test db doesn’t have all that data so most of it is blanks but it’ll give you an idea. The other is of the settings.
Installation is like any other plugin. The settings can be found on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Display tb.
I plan on adding more field options as they are requested as I’m not really sure exactly what users will want. Basically I’m just going to add them on demand since they are so easy to add.
Since you renamed the fields in the template, you will need to use the Say What plugin to rename the column headers. Example:
Old string: Home Phone
Text domain: connection_list_view
New string: Work PhoneIf you decide to try it, please let me know what you think.

ParticipantThis looks REALLY close to what I need. The only problem I forsee is in the printing. While we only have 90 employees, I don’t want them to print out 5 pages of names. Does the printout mirror the display in your screenshot? Or is there anyway to format it differently? Maybe have it print in two columns? Like a condensed printout I guess?

Clicking the Print button does bring up a print view which shows just the table, you would then use the standard browser print to print that page.
As for condensing it in two columns, sorry no, not possible. That said… My HP OfficeJet printer has an option when printing to print two pages on one sheet. Perhaps you printer does too?
