ParticipantI’m about to purchase this template to add the feature alongside Pro and the other templates I’ve bought. Slim and Category Order
One question: Is it possible to display the photo grid pre-arranged by category? Such as for a law firm: Partners, Associates, Of Counsel…so partners aren’t at the mercy of their alpha order? You know they don’t like that.
I know the dropdown allows sorting. Just hoping there’s more display flexibility.

There is no way to group by category automatically however you could use the shortcode with the category shortcode option multiple times on the same page to manually group them.
This will work fine if you have a smallish directory of individuals (20–40, max 50’ish). However, search and the category filter would not provide a good user experience (they are off by default in Gridder).
If you opt to use the category shortcode option, you will also have to make use of the home_id shortcode option. If you do not, when you click the entry’s profile link you would see the entry listed once for each time you used the shortcode to group the categories. How to set this up…
Create a second page named “Person” (the name is not important, it can be anything), add the
[connections]shortcode to it without any options. Take note of the Page ID. On the original page, add thehome_id=xto each instance of the shortcode where x would equal the Page ID of the “Person” page. After you do that, all links will now resolve to the “Person” page.Hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks for the input Steven. Good info. Due to our initial use for a law firm site, there is a strong desire for any references/displays of the attorneys to be in their category hierarchy – Parnter, Associate, Of Counsel. While the built in Category filter and search are reasonable for many, it’s a hard sell to overcome attorney hierarchy.
Ultimately, the firm will need to be able to add/delete and arrange folks on their own and the site visitors need to be able to get to the attorney bios in the least amount of clicks. So, we are running into some little hurdles for this purpose.
I have a secondary question. Let me know if I should start a new thread for this:
Since the plugin implements a category/custom post type structure, can that structure be queried outside of the plugin so that we could display a link list(quasi menu) in a sidebar like we could do with any other WordPress Category/post structure?
Partners
– person (link to profile)
– pesron
Associates
– person
– person
– person
Of Counsel
– personAgain, looking to automate management of attorneys and firm hierarchy so that the site manager can just add/delete folks rather than managing a manually created menu.

The Widget Pack includes a list widget which can be limited to categories. They are also multi instance compatible… So you could create a widget limited to category and add them to you theme’s sidebar.
Does that answer your question?

ParticipantWe’re testing it.
Ideally, I really should have just bought the whole enchilada from the start. But it wasn’t really clear we needed to do that and there’s so much information that it would be a little tough to research it all first when working on a site dev timeline.
Anyway, you’d already done a sort of swap for the full template pack. I don’t want to be a pain, but if you are game, I’d just spring for the full purchase and trade back the individual stuff as whatever proration might make sense for you. If not, I’ll survive.
