ParticipantHi Connections
I have successfully been using your Plugin and Widget PLugin, and am so far very pleased. However, I need to customise the category listing pages or archive pages overall. I would like to adjust the title diplayed (removing the main category, alongside the sub-category) and remove the Alpha listing at the top.
Please advise the file name and how to do this.
I have looked for the information on your template page but it is just showing the templates for the cards etc.

Sorry, not sure I understand what you are asking.
re: remove the Alpha listing at the top.
This can be turned off in the settings.
If it is off, perhaps you enabled it with the show_alphaindex shortcode option. If that is the case, setting it to false or removing it will remove it from the directory assuming the setting is off too.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantHi Steven
Thank you for your reponse, I have turned off the Category Index in the setting but it still shows on the category page.
Also the title on the category page is the category + the title of the business directory. I would like it only be the category and remove the words Business Directory – which template file can I alter?

re: I have turned off the Category Index in the setting but it still shows on the category page.
You mean the Character Index correct?
I randomly visit various category pages in your directory. It seems to show only on the Business Directory – All page. My guess is you used the shortcode option to turn it on. Like I mentioned in my previous reply, you need to remove the show_alphaindex shortcode option from the shortcode on that page.

Navigate to the Connections : Settings admin page and click the SEO tab. Disable the page title option.
Hope this helps!

ParticipantHi Steven
It has turned off the category title but not the directory title!
How can I turn off the directory title please?

That is the page title that you gave the page. Connections has no way to turn off the page title. Sometimes themes have the ability. Check the theme settings.

This is all getting in a bit of a muddle.
The site has a directory on it that has a custom menu that leads to pages containing shortcode to import categories onto those pages.
HOWEVER this is not what I am talking about changing.
I have a test page: http://www.livinginmagazines.co.uk/test-this-week/
That has the connections custom widget on the right showing category list. This list links to category pages these category pages are all titled Business Directory as I have removed the category title from the top of the page (your message above).
It can get muddled because the category pages apart from the test page currently show the custom menu that links to pages not categories!
So my question is this: The archive template that is used in Connections to display the categories / archives will contain the code for the diplay, here I can remove the words business directory. Please tell me the file and root path to that template.
Many thanks

Well this explains it, you’re testing something I could not see… Now that I have a direct link, that helps.
The “Business Directory” is the page title. It is not generated by Connections, it is the title you gave the page.
The Connections Category Widget links to the “Business Directory” page (filtered by the category clicked in the widget), not your custom pages that you made for the separate categories. Check the page URL/s in the address bar of the browser.
So, there is no archive page since it is the same page displayed with the list filtered by category. You can test this, change the title of this page to something different.
Connections, unless you break it apart manually like you did with your category pages, is designed to use a single page for display. There are no separate pages.
To remove the title, you need to edit the theme’s template files or better create a custom theme page template which does not include the title. Or if the theme has the option, which some do, to turn the title of on the directory page.
So how does Connections add the category name or entry name to the title, you might ask. Connections filters the page title based on how the list is being filtered.
The code that does this is here:
It hooks into the WP
the_titlefilter here:https://github.com/Connections-Business-Directory/Connections/blob/8.5.32/includes/class.seo.php#L76
Does that help?
