ParticipantHi Steve
I am trying to find out how the user can add Custom Fields in the Online form?
If I as admin add a new entry using wp-admin dashboard I can add custom fields such as ‘Free Consultation Available’ as seen in my website uklawyer4u.co.uk.However, when I go to enter a new directory entry using the Form from the frontend as an user, I cannot find an field for Custom Field input.
Also I cannot edit Custom field data in entries which already have a Custom field. Please can you advise me how I can implement the code to achieve the above?
many thanks

Apologies! I thought I had replied… I know I started to write one but I can not remember actually submitting it.
re: when I go to enter a new directory entry using the Form from the frontend as an user, I cannot find an field for Custom Field input.
Sorry, but the Custom Fields metabox is available in the admin only. It is not supported by Form. The reason being that this is a field that you generally would not want users being able to added/edit because they could add/edit the values to be anything that they wished.
re: I cannot edit Custom field data in entries which already have a Custom field.
Sorry, I am not sure I understand. Could you give me more details?

GuestHi Steve
Thanks for you reply.
The reason I would ask for Custom Fields to be seen in the FORM for users is because they are able to add information such as ‘Free Initial Consultation’ or ‘Legal Aid Authorised’ or ‘Specialist in European Law’ etc in my website http://www.lawyer4u.co.uk.Sorry to ask but what is the use of the Custom Field option if only the admin can use it from the WP admin panel and the front user cannot add or edit it (Which was the second part of my question which I admit should have been more clearly explained.)
I would appreciate if you can please explain the function of the Custom Field in your otherwise fantastic script?

re: what is the use of the Custom Field option if only the admin can use it from the WP admin panel and the front user cannot add or edit it
Other than the reson I already mentioned. The Custom Field was modelled after the same Custom Fields metabox found on the admin Posts and Pages pages which require more privileges than a subscriber has permissions to access.
Also this is to limit complexity for the user reducing potential confusion as for what that would be used for.
It is an advanced feature in which you and I understand its features and function but this not something a typical user is going to understand.
What would be a better solution for you would to have a custom metabox presenting the user with checkboxes of options where they can choose from a list of predefined options that they can check which would display in their profile.
