GuestI’m working on a high school reunion site. I think you have the product I want, but to tell the truth I have difficulty figuring what I need to buy and how to configure the system.
Default form…
A) I see fields like “Family Name, Biography, et al in the MySql and some in the default form, but these don’t show upon the screen. Does this require Form extension or a specific theme?B) Can some of these fields be renamed ie “Family Name -> Last Name at Graduation” and placed in the display. Would this require “Form” or a different theme?
C) Can unneeded fields be removed from the default form or display ie “Logo, Notes” Does this require a different theme?
D) Can an individual table field using any theme or extension be set to public or private by the member, or is it all Admin, or is it even possible?
CVS upload…
Can image file name be included in the upload or it doesn’t matter because of other image processing steps?Link extension…
Does Link require Form? Does it work with any theme?Image…
Can the image definition be changed from the default landscape layout to portrait in any theme? Thanks,

lets see…

Templates for Connections, like themes for WordPress can display things differently or not display things at all or be configured to display or not display things. Most of the templates that come with Connections show all fields except the bio and notes field. There’s the Bio Entry Card template that goes one step further and shows the bio field too. Then there’s the Profile template which shows pretty much just the bio field.
All the premium templates will show all fields are configured to hide or show fields depending on its “intended” use. So, if it does not show a field you want it to, you can turn it on … does it show a field you do not want to be displayed, turn it off.
This is all configured by the shortcode options each template enables.
re: Can some of these fields be renamed ie “Family Name -> Last Name at Graduation” and placed in the display. Would this require “Form” or a different theme?
Yes, see this QuickTip. This will allow you to change all strings in Connections, including field names which will carry over to the Form extension and templates. The exception being there are template specific strings and Form specific strings, even in these cases there are methods to change those strings using shortcode options or the method shown in the QuickTip.re: Can unneeded fields be removed from the default form or display ie “Logo, Notes” Does this require a different theme?
Gerenally if you do not enter something in a field, that field will not be displayed in the template. So the simplest solution, do not enter data in fields you do not want displayed. Or as mentioned, premium templates can be configured not to display fields. You mention “form” … The Form extension can be configured in the settings to hide fieldsets. Take a look at the “Form Settings” screenshot to see the fieldsets that can be hidden. In the admin the same fieldsets can be hidden, but those are configured per user, not globally. Just like hiding fieldsets on edit post/page admin pages.re: Can image file name be included in the upload or it doesn’t matter because of other image processing steps?
No, images can not be uploaded or reference to when importing via a CSV file.re: Can the image definition be changed from the default landscape layout to portrait in any theme?
The templates that come with Connections, the Medium Image settings on the Connections : Settings admin page effect the the size of the image being displayed in the template. The same goes for most of the premium template with exception being Excerpt, Excerpt Plus, Slim and Slim Plus where the image size is forced to ensure the design is not broken. The Tile and Tile Plus templates do have forced images sizes too but those can be overridden with shortcode options those template enable.Hope I answered you questions thoroughly!
