ParticipantSteve bought your pro package this weekend. I have had many challenges, and have resolved most of them on my end. I am having a problem with the search functionality not working ex. restaurants. I have many listings in the directory approved for this functionality. But it returns no results, it does it for many others as well. Another weird things also, we have many real estate businesses and it only returns 1 result.
The next issue is related to customizing categories. Many of the categories have a zero next to them when i choose to show the number even though there are entries within every category listed.
The site is http://padreislandbusiness.com/directory
I like the plugins quite a bit, just need to get these items resolved.
Also is there shortcode that shows a clickable alphabetical list that goes to the category or business keyword?
Lastly do you have a way to customize the color background for a category, so as to create a featured listing?
THanks for your help. I am trying to get this site launched and eagerly need your help.

First, maybe it is the theme or perhaps a plugin. But work ever is doing that custom styled page scroll slider, that seems to break the mouse scroll wheel. Meaning, the mouse scroll wheel no longers scrolls the page. Your users might find that frustrating.
re: search
Seems to work fine. Can you give specific examples of what is working and what is not???
re: categories
Use the Enhanced Categories extension (included in the Pro Pack). Just make sure to disable the category select drop down on cMap.
re: color background
No, but, I see you have a “featured” category. Add the following to the theme’s custom CSS area:
#cn-cmap div.featured div.cn-entry { background-color: gold !important; }Now, any entries assigned to the “featured” category will have a gold color. Tweak as desired.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantNot sure what you mean by this? Just make sure to disable the category select drop down on cMap.

re: Not sure what you mean by this? Just make sure to disable the category select drop down on cMap.
You ask if there was an option to show a list (index) of categories. Use the Enhanced Categories extension (included in the Pro Pack). Here is the link to the docs for it.
You should disable the category select drop down feature of cMap. This can be done with the Template Customizer feature of cMap.
re: hope you can resolve the others for me.
What other issues? There’s the search issue … but I need examples of searches not working. My tests on your site seem to be fine.

I have tried on multiple searches and nothing comes up on multiple computers as well.
As far as the category search drop down menu is concerned, there are entries that have Zero’s and when you click on that category it shows you a listing which is correct. Why do the categorires show zeros then??

re: search
I’ve filter the list by the few restaurant related categories you have, none of the entries seem to have “restaurants” in their name/address/nio/notes. So, the search is correct. If you want to search by the restaurant category(ies) using the searchable category drop down. That’s what it’s for. Then, if you need you could further refine the search by adding a keyword. Or you could search just by name with filtering by category.
Typing “restaurants” into the keyword search field is not going to filter the list by entries in the restaurant categories. use the drop down.
Or, use the Enhance Categories extension and disable the categories drop down, that way you can list an index of categories above the directory and even make the categories section in the entry card clickable to allow the user to filter by category.
Pick which you like best.
re: category count
That is odd. Can you try adding a dummy entry and then deleting it? Perhaps the counts, which are cached, were not cleared and you are seeing old counts.
Are the counts accurating on the Connections : Categories admin page?

Please point me in the direction of this tutorial, I can’t find anything about it.
2nd: Are you saying search must be by business name or keyword, you can’t search by a category? When someone has hundreds of categories, noone is going to want to you use a drop down menu to scroll forever… That’s dissapointing that someone can’t search by a category in the search box. Maybe it should read, search by business name. The only other solution is stick a keyword in the bios of all the listings. Aother 3 hour job!
Maybe I will try the latter and get rid of the drop down but still that is going to look crazy when you i have 184 categories.

Are the counts accurating on the Connections : Categories admin page? NO they all say zero as well. How do you clear this out??

There is no tutorial. Install the extension, like you have the few others in the Pro Pack and configure it to your liking.
Disable the category drop down in the Template Customizer for cMap.
RE: Are you saying search must be by business name or keyword, you can’t search by a category? When someone has hundreds of categories, noone is going to want to you use a drop down menu to scroll forever
The category drop down is search, click it so it opens and type your search. No ned at all to scroll through the categories. No matter the number.
re: Maybe I will try the latter and get rid of the drop down but still that is going to look crazy when you i have 184 categories.
You could reorganize a bit. For example, have a generic top level category with more specifics as children. For example:
- Restaurant
— Fast food
— Fine Dining
— Takeout
— Etc.
Then configure Enhanced Categories to display only the parent categories, when a user clicks on a parent the children categories are listed. That way you never display more than a dozen’ish categories at once.
Of course you could leave it as is, many people like the search category drop down a lot since i is quick and easy to use.
re: Are the counts accurating on the Connections : Categories admin page? NO they all say zero as well. How do you clear this out??
Did you create a dummy category and then delete it? Than clears the count cache. If you did, I’ll need an admin login so I can take a closer look. I have not seen the category counts off like this before. So I not presently sure what the issue could be.
