GuestI think you answered this in another user’s question a week ago, but I’m not certain our situations are exactly the same. I am creating a club website and want the membership list to
- require a userid/password to view the directory
- a member who logs in can edit their own entry information.
In the other user’s question, it was suggested to use the Link Extension. This looks like it will do what I am looking for. Is this the right thing?
2nd question: is the database of userid/password the same as wordpress itself, or does Connections keep it’s own set of user credentials?
3rd question: how does a user request registration to get credentials?
4th question: I am wanting the creditials to be used for the entire “section” of the website (ie. the “Member’s only” menu choice). How can the logon page be setup for the entire directory structure?
btw: the site is still under construction. It is currently at
http://gator4128.hostgator.com/~tba/bvbeeks.org/ if you want a better look at what I am trying to do.Last question: would this be easier with one of the pre-done templates?

Yes, using Link this will allow you to allow your registered WP users to make edits to their entry in Connections.
As for requiring a login to view the director, you need to enable this option. This doc page I just started working on Monday and is not finished and not generally available. I hope to have it more complete and publicly released by the end of the day. It’ll cover all the settings found on the Connections : Settings admin page.

Connections does not use it own user credentials. This is something that I can confidently say will never change as the WordPress user authentication is robust and secure. Put simply, only checks for if the current user is logged in to WordPress

There are many ways to do this, but the simplest is to simply set the WordPress page to Private. That option is the Visibility setting above the Publish/Update button when you add/edit WordPress pages.

No. Template will have nothing to do with this. Templates for the most part, simply change the way the directory appears… mush like themes mostly simply change the appearance of WordPress pages/posts.
