The issue is very likely because the shortcode has errors in it. WordPress has been tightening up its shortcode API. It is less tolerant of errors which make it more secure.
Your shortcode is using fancy quotes. See how they have a slight slight in your screenshot? The WordPress shortcode parser does not support fancy quotes. It only supports straight quotes. The fancy quotes are nearly always the result of copy/pasting from a web page and pasting into the WP Visual editor. The fancy quotes will not be pasted into the WP Text editor.
That said, the shortcode should look like this (example):
`[connections initial_results='true' card_width=640 category_width=650 page_limit=36 pagination_position='after' show_birthday='false' show_note='true']
Notice how the quotes are straight down, no slant. The straight quotes is the keyboard key right next to the enter/return key on the keyboard… the one you would normally use when typing a single quote.
To fix it, edit the page with the shortcode. Click the Text tab. change all the fancy quotes to straight quotes. Additionally, remove any HTML tags that is in and around the shortcode. Those hidden HTML tags are also pasted when copying from a web page. These too will prevent the WP shortcode parser from correctly processing the shortcode.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantHi,
I solved it with Steven instructions (thanks Steven) or I think so.
Perhaps It was a incompatibility with another plugin.Jordi

It would help if you could explain what you mean by messed up. Unfortunately the only suggestions I can give you, since you posted in this thread is to follow the advice I gave in this reply and if that does not work, deactivate, delete and reinstall Connections (your data is safe).
If you can reply back with more details I will be able to offer better help.
I hope this helps, let me know.

GuestFYI, I am very new to WordPress so please excuse any stupidity on my part. When I navigate to page I only see a string of the shortcode. I did add shortcode in Text so there should not be any html tags, but I am not sure what is going on.

GuestI did deactivate the plugin and reinstalled it, but that did not resolve the issue.

Maybe you could help me by letting me know what the issue is exactly. You know something a little more descriptive than; “I upgraded to 4.4. Now it is all hosed up.” :)

GuestWhen I navigate to the page with the connections shortcode I only see a string with the shortcode, not the users.

GuestThis is what is on the page.
