Shortcode inside shortcode

I am trying to put a shortcode inside a shortcode but I am doing something wrong. I have a member-only area set up. In that area, I show on-going projects. For each project, I show the members involved. Each project is associated with a category. I am using the Tile Plus template. I want to be able put most of the template codes in a shortcode that I can use within the Connections shortcode. The only difference from one project to another is the category.

Here is what I tried to do:

Tile Plus repeated code, placed in a shortcode:

The shortcode containing the Tile Plus repeated code:

[contentblock id=1706]

The shortcode used on the WordPress page:

[connections category='96' [contentblock id=1706]]

Attached is an example of the results, showing the “shortcode inside shortcode” results on the top and “everything in one shortcode” on the bottom.

Obviously what I am trying is not working. Do you have any suggestions for how I can do this?
