GuestHi
I currently use the Market template on another site and am looking at using cMap with the Link and Login extensions to build a business directory on the site I manage at my work. Is there a way to add a PDF file to the listing? What we are looking at is having businesses list in the directory who are able to put up special offers in the form of a voucher that people can download and take into the business and use to get 10% off an item or some sort of saving.
Many thanks

Sorry, no not officially. That said, links to PDFs should be able to added to the bio and notes fields. A lot of HTML is filtered out when user add/edit their entry for security, but I am pretty certain links are permitted.
Hope that answers your question.

GuestHi Steven
Another question, we want to set up the directory so that people can manage their own listings but I don’t want them to log into the site itself, just the directory page. I also want the directory to be publicly available without people having to login in to see it (I hope that makes sense). Would I be able to use cMap with Link and Form to be able to do this?
Thanks

re: we want to set up the directory so that people can manage their own listings but I don’t want them to log into the site itself, just the directory page
Sorry, this is not possible. WordPress has a built in proven, reliable and most importantly a secure user authentication system. A logon for just the directory is not a feature I will add to Connections when WordPress has one built in. My suggestion is to allow site login and have those users set as Subscribers. The only additional privilege a logged in Subscriber has is the ability to edit their WP user profile while being authenticated vs. a user which does not have have a login. You can block access to the admin for the logged in Subscriber. There are lots of plugins available to do this. Then you can use Form and link to give the Subscriber permission to edit their directory entry only on the site’s frontend.
Hope that answers your question thoroughly.

GuestHi Steven
OK just to make sure I understand how the process would work a company that wants to list in our directory would be set up with a user id and password and given a subscriber role. I can insert some code that would take them straight to the directory page when they log in. Am I correct in thinking that Link will take them straight to their basic listing (does their email address need to be their user id for this to happen?) and then they can use Form to add in the other details?
Thanks again

re: a company that wants to list in our directory would be set up with a user id and password and given a subscriber role.
Correct.
re: I can insert some code that would take them straight to the directory page when they log in.
You could use a user login redirection plugin to do the redirect the the directory page of your site. From there, they can click on the link to add their entry which will be displayed above the directory. If there entry already exists, then the link will show view my directory.
re: Am I correct in thinking that Link will take them straight to their basic listing
No, Link only links a user account to a directory entry to allow that user to maintain it. It does not do any login redirection.
re: does their email address need to be their user id for this to happen?
The email address in the user account must match the email address in the directory entry for Link to link the two.
re: they can use Form to add in the other details?
Correct, if Form is installed, they will be able to add/edit their entry on the site frontend using the same links that the Link extension adds. The difference is that the links will resolve the page where they can do it with Form on the frontend instead of the admin Link profile page. Hope that makes sense!
