Participanthello,
i have enjoyed your plugins so far, thanks for the good coding!Although the maps don’t seem to be working… I have even entered a Google geolocation API key…
http://www.gunnisoncountylibraries.org/gv-wellness-guide/#Do you know why the maps will not display?
Thanks in advance,

re: As per your explanation the listings with addresses would default to geo-lookup regardless of 000.000 -000.0000… and therefore display a map, but that actually makes the blank maps scenario more strange.
The blanks maps you are seeing have nothing to do with the lat/lng values. Open the page in Chrome, hit the F12 key and click the Console tab. You see several errors related to the maps. The most important is:
Google Maps API warning: NoApiKeys https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages#no-api-keys
This error basically means the Google Maps API key have not been setup correctly. I know you said you’ve “entered a Google geolocation API key“, but it seems Google does not think so so it is preventing the Maps from working on your site.
You need to follow this tutorial on how to get your Google Maps API keys. After you do, look at the error messages. Google will tell you the errors and provide a link to their documentation on what the error means.
Apologies for the maps difficulties but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about that since Google has changed their policies on their API usage … basically they’re looking to more fully monetize their services.
Hope that helps, let me know.

ParticipantThanks for this… I have very carefully attempted to follow but where I can’t follow the directions that I do not have the options to select browser and or server keys.
When i click “create key” and choose “API” the it gives me a key right away.
I can name that key as i wish, such as ‘browser key’, but there is no second window that allows me to choose that or any option.Any Ideas why I am facing this issue?
Thanks in advance,

Participantthese are the current errors:
js?ver=1.0:94 You have included the Google Maps API multiple times on
this page. This may cause unexpected errors.Ng @
js?ver=1.0:94(anonymous function) @ js?ver=1.0:127google.maps.Load @
js?ver=1.0:18(anonymous function) @ js?ver=1.0:127(anonymous function)
@ js?ver=1.0:128 util.js:208 Google Maps API warning: NoApiKeys
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages#no-api-keysAs I have described I am unable to assign credentials to a specific API I can only create a generic Key… not sure why?
And the multiple API calls error can be replaced with another error message if I uncheck the Google Maps API v3 box… but then this error shows:

re: When i click “create key” and choose “API” the it gives me a key right away.
I can name that key as i wish, such as ‘browser key’, but there is no second window that allows me to choose that or any option.Ok, its seems Google has changed the user interface a bit… I suppose it makes it easier. There is no longer a choice between key types, instead you have to create multiple keys then choose the limitation. I’ll have to spend some time today updating the tutorial.
As long as you did not add any restrictions to the key you created, you should be able to use it for both the browser and server keys. This is not “safe” but let’s ignore the restrictions for now in order to get you up and running. If you added restrictions to the key, please remove it now. After you do, add the key to both the server and the browser key setting on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Advanced tab.
re: And the multiple API calls error can be replaced with another error message if I uncheck the Google Maps API v3 box
Leave this option enabled, you will very likely break maps in Connections.
After you have done these, please let me know and I’ll look at your page.

ParticipantHello, and thanks for your help thus far. I have unrestricted the key, used the same key in both fields, and i have checked the box for Google Maps… The maps still do not display.
Please lmk how you’d like to proceed.
Thanks,
Rob
P.S. We have a public launch of this directory Tuesday. If we can’t get this working, before then, perhaps an option is to “hide” the maps… can that be done?

Thanks for doing the above! It has helped tremendously in diagnosing the issue. The issue seems to be that the Maps API is being loaded on the page twice, as we already knew.
The second instance being loaded seem to be loaded by EventON plugin. There’s a few issues here…
- There instance is being loaded on every single page of your site. instead of being limited to the pages where the events calendar resides. Now, that could be because of the events widget being used. Try removing the event widget for me. That way we can tell if it is because of their widget or not.
- Their instance is not being loaded with a key which is overriding the Connections instance which does have a key so Google is reporting the “js?ver=1.0:127 Google Maps API warning: NoApiKeys” error.
- Since their instance is being loaded without a key the widget does not work correctly which causes these two errors “util.js:208 Google Maps API warning: NoApiKeys” and “This service requires an API key. For more information on authentication and Google Maps Javascript API services please see…“. You can duplicate this on any page on your site by clicking any of the Oct 24 events.
So, the source of the issue seems to be EventON and not an issue with Connections. Any way, like I said, let’s start by removing the event widget and see if that helps.

Yes. you can turn the maps off using the Template Customizer on cMap. It is one of the options.

ParticipantMan, you are good! Thank you so much for sticking around to help! So many would have ignored my requests!
EventOn is an important plugin for the site so I didn’t turn it off, but there is a Google API admin section (I was unaware of this) and I’m not using the maps there anyway so I just turned that feature off…
And now the maps seem to be working just perfectly – THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!Regards,
