    Hi,
    I had purchased the Link and the Form add ons, but can’t get it to work right.
    Hope you can help. I have 2 issues:
    1. I am NOT receiving notification of a new entry even though I have the checkmark ticked under the Form tab.
    2. the link to add/edit entry is NOT showing up at the top of the directory. It was but no longer is since updating Connections.

    Hope you can help ASAP … I tried contacting you a few weeks ago but haven’t heard from you.

    There were a couple email back and forths, each to which was replied to. Do you have the link to the forum thread you started? I’d like to see why the forum plugin did not notify me…

    I suspect you’re testing while logged in. You will not be notified of entries you submit using Form if you’re logged in … after all, you would know that you submitted the entry :)

    If that is not the case, then let me know. The issue is more than likely the host, not Connections. You can test that by using a email testing plugin such as WP-Mail-SMTP. You do not need to use it to setup SMTP, it has some pretty good feedback when sending a test email.

    You or someone else may have accidentally turned it off. See the last few steps in the installation instructions.

    Thanks for getting back to me … not sure why my message from a few weeks ago never got to you … whatever :-)

    Ok, I’m not having any joy yet …
    1. email the submission: I tried another browser while logged in in another, but still not getting notification. The host is fine … I’ve tested email using a plugin and it passes …. plus, our membership software is sending email fine as well.

    1. missing links for adding/editing entry: I hadn’t changed a thing, but as a test, besides having the required setup according to the instructions (which I had already successfully done), when I also clicked next to “submit new entry” option it DOES show that but still doesn’t show “view my entry” or “add my entry” … I have to admit I don’t understand the difference between the above.
    2. REQUEST: I have things set up so that when someone wants to create their entry, it will only show the fields I checked in the Form tab, but had to do a bit of hiding div’s within the Name section so it hid the Organization, etc and ONLY shows name input fields. GOOD …

    One last thing I do need to do though is autopopulate the Biographical Info field with some text that they then add to. I’m hoping you can point me to the file that I would add this text. Or any instructions you’re willing to share w/ me on how to best do this. I would so very much appreciate it … I’m SO close to getting everything completed on this dreaded project.

    If you could take a look at the site again to see what’s up, that would be great. Let me know if you still have the log in info.

    I would but I do not think I have the login, do I??? Are you perhaps communicating under another name too? Any way, if you could sent the login details using the contact link at the bottom of the page, I’ll take a look. Please path a link to this forum thread so I can relate the two.

    Are they ending up in spam or being clocked anywhere else? The email is sent using the to core wp_mail() function so if WordPress is sending email, so should Connections.

    The “Submit New Entry” is a publically available link for anonymous submissions. This is added by the Form extension. The “View My Entry” will only be shown to a user which has had an entry linked to the user by the Link extension. This link will not be shown if there is no link. Instead the “Add My Entry” link will be shown. generally, If you have Link installed, you’re not really going to what the “Submit New Entry” active.

    In short this is possible and I guess the best place to add the test would be in this function. File name and path are in the URL.

    Thanks for getting back to me.

    I’ll post login info in a private message after this one … I remember you saying you don’t get notification if it’s private. :-)

    First, we have 2 OTHER issues I’ve noticed:
    1. since the upgrade, ALL emails listed in the member directory have a weird “null” after the @ sign now. Ex: carl@nulluntappedgenius.com . Hopefully this can be fixed?!

    1. when I tried adding and entry and posted … I got a message about your entry will be reviewed by moderator or whatever it is … and THEN … it disappears and I get an error that says: “Nonce validation failed” … yes, the word “Nonce” … ehhhh?? :-)

    the 2 remaining issues:
    1. I have link installed but it is no longer showing the view or add member directory links at the top … they were … but no longer are no matter what I’ve done.
    2. not sending email … still not.

    I hate to dump all these issues on you … thank you for taking a nice close look … once these are resolved, I will be 100% complete w/ this project that I REALLY need to finish.

    OH, and thanks for the tip on autopopulating the one field … I’ll give it a go and let you know if it works :-)

    This is being caused by the Obfuscate E-mail plugin.

    Nonce is a real term. It basically means a unique token used only once — number-once :). I use these to prevent spammers.

    My guess is you saw the usual “Please wait, your submission is being processed.” message and then the nonce validation message instead of the “We will review and approve your submission soon.” message.

    You would see this message if the nonce became invalidated which can happen for a couple of reasons. The time expired or the raw entry data was changed.

    When logged in as you I see the “Add My Directory Entry” link. When logged in as test 5 … I see the “View My Directory Entry” link. However, when logged in as xen 2, I do not see either of the links. Which is really odd, indeed. I deactivated the “Hide Admin Bar From Non-admins” and the admin bar will not show for that user either, but shows for the others.

    So something is failing…

    I installed “User Roles Editor” and all roles and capabilities seem in order.

    I installed the “WP Editor”, make making quick changes to plugins quick and easy.

    It seems the WordPress core functions is_user_logged_in() is returning false when the user is logged in. It should return true. Something tells me this is the fault of Digital Access Pass. It seems like it is not actually logging in the WP user. If DAP does not actually log in WP users or does not consistently, well, Link simply can not work and there really is nothing I can do about it, sorry. That would be something for DAP to address.

    As a test to verify this, I tried logging directly in WordPress as xen 2. This failed. So, I updated the WP user account of xen 2 with the password and then logged in. I was able to see the “Add My Directory Entry” link, as expected. Now what is interesting, I clicked logout in the menu then logged back in as xen 2 via the member login page (not WordPress) whet to the directory, guess what, now I can the “Add My Directory Entry” link.

    So this, I believe, definitely confirms that DAP is not syncing the login and it seems setting the password will actually force DAP to sync.

    This could also could explain the nonce validation error.

    re: not sending email … still not.
    The emails do appear to be sending. I’ve submitted several test entries and in each case I received the auto reply but I did not receive the submission notice email. This seems to be due the the web host blocking email when the to and from are set to the same email address. I’m afraid your host may be one of those. You’ll have to contact them regarding that issue. For now, I hardcoded the from email address to carl@missionmarketingmentors.com. Now, it magically works.

    Hey thanks Steve for all the time you put into this … REALLY appreciate it.

    I fixed the “null” being added to the email – GOOD

    I am working w/ dap to see what can be done – right now, NEW members DO have the “Add to Member Directory” link showing :-)

    QUESTION: regarding the auto-populate the Biographical Info w/ some starting text (which you responded to in your 2nd last response), I see the function on line 2954:

    public function getBio() {

    return $this->format->sanitizeString( $this->bio, TRUE );

}

    Might you provide me what code I would add so that when user goes to add their info to that field, they ADD their answers to the following bolded text (which stays visible along w/ their answers):

    Thanks for the code sample but no joy … made site blank :-) … so I tried the following as a test and when I go to fill in the Bio field as a user, it’s blank. Here’s the test code:
