ParticipantI’ve had one of my pages up and running now for … about a year or so and its google listing for the panels is poor. The page URL (or the actual page title?) is coming up good on search results but it seems the panels are barely even given a look in.
I had thought that the cmap organization name is mostly what google look for or how does it work?
I’ve got a decent amount of shares (at the bottom of the page) so folks are viewing. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to improve on googles ranking of the panels.
Thankyou.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by panels? Do you mean the individual entries on the page?
Google is going to look at the page title of the individual page and indexes that page’s content to that page. The Connections entries are marked using the hCard micro data which helps Google better parse the page contents.
From what I can tell, everything is working just fine…
For example this search finds roaster where it exists on both pages on your site:
site:http://cuptaste.com/ Barosaa Coffee RoastersWhen I check for the hCard micro data using Google’s testing tool, it is finding all the roaster correctly:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=http%3A%2F%2Fcuptaste.com%2Fcoffee-roasters%2Fsouth-australian-coffee-roasters%2FIf I search for just “Barosaa Coffee Roasters” Google returns over 13,000 results for me … so your site could be anywhere in that result set as the order is determined by Google.
If you would like individual entries to be index, possibly, better by Google, you could enable the Name link option under the Advanced tab on the Connections : Settings admin page.
If you do that, then I highly recommend tweaking your setup since you’re using Connections on multiple pages filtered by category. I suggest creating a “Results” page and setting that as the directory home page. This would help prevent the possibility that Google might lower your site rank due to duplicate content.
Will this improve your Google site ranks in the Google search ranking, honestly, only Google knows.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantThankyou for your reply, appreciate that.
So I have ticked the Name link Single Entry option under the Advanced tab on the Connections : Settings admin page. as per your suggestion.
I’ve googled quite a few of my listings just to see which page they actually turn up on. Its all over the place, with results on page 1,2,3,4… right threw to not even being listed (Barossa Coffee Roasters). Many are within the first few pages, overall I reckon its as expected.
One thing I did notice which I need fixing is the caption (or whatever its called) beneath the result on google. Below I searched ‘bootleg coffee roasters’. It mentions the logo for 2 business’s and this part ‘On this page you’ll find South Australian coffee roasters‘ which is just the little blurb at the top of the roasters page. It seems to show this for all results on google.
South Australian Coffee Roasters | cuptaste.com
cuptaste.com/coffee-roasters/south-australian-coffee-roasters/
May 5, 2013 – On this page you’ll find South Australian coffee roasters (with … Logo for Barosaa Coffee Roasters … Logo for Bootleg Coffee Roasters …How do I change this so that it shows the address, etc, as per entry. Or will that happen in due time now that i’ve ticked the Single Entry option as mentioned above? and will the below error (gotten from your link to webmaster tools) be solved as well?
Error: This information will not appear as a rich snippet in search results, because it seems to describe an organization. Google does not currently display organization information in rich snippets
Hope I made sense.
PS – it would be good to get a preview button for when writing posts :)

The caption [meta page description] that Google is extracting from the page is what I would expect since all the roasters for the separate regions are single pages. To my knowledge, Google is not going to parse out each entry as a single search result. This meta page description can be set to something you desire instead of one Google creates from the page content. Use a plugin Such as WordPress SEO by Yoast to do this.
Ticking the name link option should help because now each entry will have its “own” page, as far as Google is concerned…
I went back to site to take a look, even though you have the name link option enabled, the roaster names are not links as they should be. You should be able to click on a link and be taken to a virtual page where only the entry which was clicked exists. That option can be overridden [disabled] at the shortcode level. What is the exact shortcode you are using on the directory pages? If you have
link=falseset as an option, remove that. With the name link option set the meta page description for each individual entry should be an excerpt of the contents of the bio field. It will not be the address and such. Maybe when Google supports organization rich snippets it will. There’s nothing I can do about that. I can only do my best to ensure the micro data is properly setup for Google.
