I am considering using Connections with my website and possibly purchasing a template, however my hosting provider just recently informed me they would be upgrading PHP to version 5.4 in April, 2013 with no option to go back. I upgraded to test functionality and the Connections plugin gave errors, such as the one below, on the Templates screen:
Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /homepages/40/d222995817/htdocs/nssacademy/wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/class.template.php on line 132
Is Connections going to be compatible with PHP 5.4, or is there a fix/work around for this error?
Connections should work fine under PHP 5.4.
As for the PHP warning. On a live site, it’s good practice to setup the PHP warnings to be logged rather than shown to the user. Look at the answer here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1645661/turn-off-warnings-and-errors-on-php-mysql
That answer explains how to make this change to the PHP config via the .htaccess file.
Hope that helps!
