ParticipantIs it possible to update data entries via an CSV Import?
I saw a post from 2010 where you stated that CSV Imports would not update data but, would create duplicate entries.
Is this still the case or has this been updated?
If this has not been updated or addressed, feature request:

With versions 1.0 and greater … off the top of my head I think this could be added with only a few lines of code and if the entry ID were supplied in the CSV file. There would be one big caveat. All the addresses, phone, email and such would actually be wiped and then reimported. This is because those fields support n-number of items. So, to answer your question, no, this has not been implemented because of that, sorry.

ParticipantPerforming a complete wipe and re-import would not be unacceptable.
It would actually be much, much more preferable than creating duplicates. Is there a limited to the number of entries that could or should be imported at one time?
Ultimately we will have tens of thousands of entries but, we could break the uploads in to sub-sets if necessary.

The upper limit per import is still server resource bound. I’ve only tested up 20,000 in a CSV import. The current CSV Import will import the import in lots of 100. If you have a beefier server, you could alter this value quite easily to import 1000 at a time. Imports are more efficient in larger chunks. I have to keep the value low so it doesn’t run into problems on the lower priced shared hosts.
NOTE: Even though the imports happen in chunks the CSV library I use still parses the entire file, so that’s where the script will be server resource bound.
Hope that helps.
