ParticipantWhen we remove the shortcode from this page (http://howleyco.com/line-card/) the page loads, but without the Connections directory, of course.
When we put the shortcode in, it causes the 500 error. It was OK before the most recent WP update.
Any ideas?

Have you checked your PHP error logs? Perhaps there is something in there that would shed a little more light on the issue?
How many entries are you trying to display on the page? Hundreds?
Maybe try increasing the memory allocated to PHP. I recommend 128MB.
Hope this helps, let me know.

ParticipantWe increased the memory allocated to PHP and cleared the cache and that didn’t solve the problem. There are only about 20 entries total, so even if we displayed all, that wouldn’t be the problem.

I think you need to check the memory allocated to PHP… according to the PHP error message only
0.262144MB is allocated to PHP. WordPress itself tries to default to 40MB (which is fine without plugins and why I recommend at least 128MB).03/21/2017 at 5:26 pm #416473Alice Foeller
GuestWe now have the PHP limit set to 512MB and we are still getting the error.
Screenshot showing validation of PHP limit increase:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/b74pizxnr216an5/Screenshot%202017-03-21%2017.22.43.png?dl=0We cleared the cache at the website and used a private browsing window.

What about the PHP error logs like I had suggested? After making the changes, what does the error say now? I suspect the changes are not actually being applied. The way PHP works you can set the values to anything you want, but the webhost can “hard limit” or prevent any actual changes from being applied.
I’m curious as to what the error log will say now.

GuestI thought that, too, but I was on the phone with the webhost (BlueHost), and they generated the info.php page (shown in the screenshot) which verifies that the changes were applied.
Error log now says:
[22-Mar-2017 16:24:31 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 262144 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 86 bytes) in /home1/howleyco/public_html/wp-includes/load.php on line 102703/22/2017 at 12:43 pm #416659Alice Foeller
GuestCalled again and i guess the wp-config was overriding the php.iti
wp-config for some reason had 212 memory limit instead of 212M.
Thanks for your patience and quick responses!
