ParticipantLast Friday I updated Connections. As soon as I updated it, I got this message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘(float)’ (double) (T_DOUBLE_CAST) in /home4/docobar/public_html/wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/entry/class.entry-actionsphp on line 1019I’m a rank amateur webmaster, so I asked my professional I.T. friend what it meant. He said it is a coding problem that needs to be fixed by the developer.
I need this fixed because I can’t do anything on the website until it is. The control panel is frozen and unusable.

Yes and no…
Part of the issue is the server is very likely running a very old and unsupported version (for years). I recommend asking your professional IT friend or web host to update your site to run a more recent version of PHP. WordPress recommends version 7.0 due to it being much faster and far more resource efficient. I recommend at least version 5.6 (which is actually going to be unsupported soon if I remember correctly).
I did rollback the update after only a few hours so you must have been one of the few hundred who updated when this issue came to light…
You should be able to delete the
../wp-content/plugins/connections/folder via FTP. The will let you back in you admin. Now you can reinstall Connections as you normally would. You data is completely safe and will not be deleted by deleting the plugin folder.I will be releasing a revised update today which will make it work again on the very old version of PHP. It’s a very minor change but necessary for that old version. So you could also wait and install the new update if you wish.

It seems wp.org is in the middle of a major update. I can only guess this is the cause of the incorrect updated (an old one from Friday) is being pushed as the most current update … it is not, yesterdays is. Even the download link on the Connections wp.org plugins page is downloading an even older version.
I did push out 8.6.1 for the latest update which I believe will fix the issue you all are experiencing but the best I can tell wp.org has not yet acknowledged the new version.

The latest 8.6.1 update seems to resolve the two issues that were encountered with this update. Wp.org seems to sending the correct version now and the correct version is available for download on the wp.org page for Connections. So it seems they worked out their update issues as well.
