GuestI’ve purchased the Circled template and am trying to do something similar to what you discussed here: http://connections-pro.com/2015/01/20/bugfix-release-8-1-6/
I basically need an additional field or category on each profile for “region” and then have that field available as an additional dropdown next to the category dropdown. Or, if I can do something similar to what you did on that link with the search narrowing by dropdown.
Can you please point me in the right direction to try to accomplish this.
Thanks,

Are your regions added as categories?
11/11/2015 at 2:34 pm #354580Joe
GuestRight now, they are not, but could be added that way. I wasn;t sure if I should categories or create a custom field to get it work.
Again, any direction would be great.
Also – Didn’t see this response until now.
Thanks,

If the regions were set up as categories, this can be done. See this site as an example: https://sscit.org/
I can set this up for you for a reasonable fee. Just like the example site, this would require two page, one for the initial search input and one for the search results.
If you’re interested, let me know.

GuestOk, so basically, those fields are all set-up as sub-categories on the example page, correct? With each dropdown pulling from a sub category? So, would I be correct to assume that the example uses a form with all those dropdown fields and then queries the results, filtering by each dropdown variable?
If so, where do I find the file that controls the query for the current category dropdown?
Thanks,

re: Ok, so basically, those fields are all set-up as sub-categories on the example page, correct? With each dropdown pulling from a sub category?
Correct. Each drop down represents the children categories of a parent category. Hope that makes sense.

Not sure I understand the question. Could you rephrase it?

GuestI’m sorry, let me clarify.
The way I think this is done is that your example is one form. Each dropdown selects different child categories, a text field for the Zip, dropdown for the radius and a text field for the Search. Then, you send the variables on submit (Search) to a “do shortcode” php script, using the variables from the form to output the results via the built in short code capabilities. So, the short code output is set by the form, the categories, the zip code radius, etc.
If that is not how it is done, would the way I lay out be possible?

Yes, I submit the form via a
getaction. The query variable being set for the category search iscn-cat-in. The target page simple has the[connections]shortcode. the code that performs the query as builtin support for the query var. Thecn-cat-inis an operation AND. You could usecn-catinstead to perform an optional OR search.Does that answer the question?
The file where the query vars are being used is here.
As you see, they are many query vars that can be utilized.
Hope that helps.

GuestSteve,
Perfect. This was exactly what I was looking for.
I’ll update you with any questions, or hopefully, a success.
Thanks,

GuestSteven,
Ok, I have it working somewhat. You can see a working version Here
I am currently having two issues I’m trying to work out.
- The 3 category drop downs and search field are all working together and individually to narrow the search results. The one thing that is not working is the zip code and radius. It is not working individually or with the other fields to narrow the results. I’m feeding the “near_addr” and “radius” values the same way as all the others. Any ideas?
- The cn-search-messages output after the search only outputs for the search terms. I dived into the class.template-parts.php and found that there is no $out setup for “cn-cat-in”, “cn-radius” or the zip code. Can I just uncomment the code for the “cn-radius” and duplicate the individual code for “cn-cat-in” and zip code fields?
Thanks for any help,
Joe -
