GuestPlug-in 8.2.2 is activated
PHP 5.2.6
MySQL 5.5.8
WordPress 4.1.1Connections does NOT show up on the side menu. Selecting “settings” from the installed Plug-in page throws a 500 error.
Plugin is working just fine on a different site on this same server

GuestAlso, this is a brand new site just created today.

Best guess is there’s something configured very differently between the two site in the .htaccess and or php.ini file. Honestly, I can’t even begin to guess what the issue may be.
Are you sure you’re using the same PHP version between the two sites? I know I can configure which version on a per site basis.
Any reason you’re using the ancient version of PHP? The oldest I can even test with and the version I do the dev work on is 5.2.17. I can’t see how that would make a difference… but it is PHP so it could be the issue.
Have you checked the PHP error logs? They may reveal more details that could be helpful?

GuestNo longer getting that 500 error but it is giving a “403 – Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.” Plus Connections does NOT show up on the left hand menu. Selecting “Settings” from the Plug-in page OR selecting “Start” from the “NOTICE: Connections database requires updating” message gives that 403 error. ALL the sites on the server use the same PHP.INI so that is not the issue and the .htaccess files are identical too. Have set permissions as 777 and that has not made a difference either Be happy to give you Admin and FTP login access to take a look

Sure, I’ll take a quick look. Send me a WP admin login and FTP login using the contact link at the bottom of the page. Please paste a link to this forum thread in the message so I can relate the two. Thanks!

Since the server is running II7, permissions needs set differently as you can not set folder permissions (at least not as currently configured) via FTP to 777 or any level for that matter.
This issue is not Connections isolated… I installed several different debugging plugins I use and I could not use any of them due to the 403 and 500 errors. Examples, Code Snippets and Query Monitor (this one will crash the site when active, it has to be deleted via FTP).
A quick Google search revealed that this might be the solution?
http://sanuja.com/blog/resolving-iis-403-forbidden-access-is-deniedThat said, I was able to “fix” Connections. The issue seemed to be that something removed its custom role capabilities that it requires. OR. The installation partially failed due to the aforementioned server permissions issue and those capabilities were never added. At any rate, I was able to “force” install the role capabilities and Connections appears to function correctly for you now. This does not fix the root of the issue but at least you are moving forward now.
Hope that helps!

GuestAwesome. I’ll check it out and the recommended possible fix. Odd that this issue is only happening on this particular site and none of the other 33 WordPress sites on this particular server. Including some others running Connections.
Thanks for your help

Indeed that is very odd… but that is the only thing I can come up with since it also affected other plugins… then again, I’m not a server guy either. If you do ever figure out the root issue, I’d love to know what it was and the fix.
