ParticipantI tried adding 2nd directory per the below question and answer, but unfortunately it did not work. The numbers I entered for each separate directory were the Category Id numbers from the category page. Unfortunately, Category ID from 2nd directory still appeared on 1st directory, although its category ID was not on the 1st category’s list.
Could it be because when I updated page it randomly added text I did not enter, such as 0= after connections and before category plus quotation marks at end? Also only [connections were on one line. Bumped everything afterwards to start on new line.
Would appreciate any help. We would really like to have 2 different directories using drop down and same format.
Thank you!
Here’s the original question and answer:
Can I use cMap on two different pages showing different categories in the drop down?
Sort of, you can limit the list to specific root parent categories. What is meant by root parent is that the category is not a child of another category. This can be done by using the category shortcode option and a cMap enable shortcode option, enable_category_by_root_parent. Here is an example that will only show the root parent categories 2, 5, 12 and their children categories in the drop down.
[connections category='2,12,5' enable_category_by_root_parent=true]

My best guess at the moment the issue is the shortcode are not correct. Connections does read and rewrite the shortcode correcting the most common mistakes so if you are seeing
=0inserted afterconnectionsshooting is not correct. You final shortcode should resemble something very similar to the example in my previous answer. What are the exact shortcodes used on both pages?
When you edit shortcode, for any plugin, it is best to first click on the
Texttab on the WordPress editor.07/19/2017 at 7:06 pm #429677Beverly
GuestSteven,
Thank you! The devil is, indeed in the details, and I made one silly mistake.
Works like it should.

ParticipantOne more question now that I understand how to set up more than 1 directory:
Can I have the same name for a category in different directories? I have “Education” in original directory, but also have “Education” in 2nd directory.
Thanks again!

RE: Can I have the same name for a category in different directories?
Yes, you can a child category under each of the parent categories that have the same name. So, you would add “Education” as a child category under both the parent categories. You would have to edit the entries to make sure they have are assigned to both “Education” categories (assuming that you want the entry to display in both directories under the same “Education” category).
Hope that helps!
