ParticipantWe spoke before about a customisation job to create 4 different category groups for my client, each with it’s own dropdown as per a sample site you showed me. I am finally getting the client to lock in their categories and values for this customisation task and will email you shortly!
Here is a quick question. Is it possible to show the members directory in 2 different locations in the website and show it with 2 categories in one and with all 4 in the other?
My client would like to get members to tick boxes in 4 different category types: Industry / Role / Competence (Stage of Development) / Competence (Project Size) when they maintain their profiles. However, they only want 2 of these (Industry and Role) to be searchable by the public in the “public” version of the directory. They would then preferably like a copy of the directory to be available in a members only area of the website (which we are creating anyway for other member resources) where paid members can access the full 4 categories to search. Is this feasible? Perhaps the simplest thing would be to hide the other two dropdowns with CSS classes??

I’m actually working on a project right now with very similar requirements as far as the category searching. There is one category that only logged in members should be able to search by. Hiding two categories (or more) can be done quite easily. My suggestion would be to have only a single directory though. You can put the search box in a “public” and “member” page and when a search is performed, the results page will be the same directory page. Hope that makes sense!

GuestYes, that is exactly what I am looking for. Probably wrong to say 2 “versions”. I meant the same directory database but displayed twice on the site but with the different search options. Is there any additional development work required from your end other than the customisation for the multiple category drop downs we spoke of before?

No, you would display the directory only once and you would display the search twice, one on the public and one on the private page. When a member searches from the private page, they will end up on the one directory page showing the results. They would be able search all categories options and the the public would only be able to search by the two categories. Now, when a member is on the public page they will still be able to search by all 4 because only members will be able to see all 4.
Does that make sense?

ParticipantAh yes, that makes sense. Cheers! Will I send the final category lists to you to your email address?

re: Will I send the final category lists to you to your email address?
Nope, you would setup the categories. Please contact me using the contact link at the very bottom of the page and I’ll sent you a quote for the installation and configuration of the multiple category search. I’ll also need have admin account on the site I’ll setting this up on. I will also need to know which two pages this is to be setup on and which categories are the parent categories which should show as search options and which parent categories are to be displayed to member as search options. Hope that makes sense.
