ParticipantSteven, we’ve discovered a navigation behavior that seems odd in relation to the use of Gridder, Profiles and sidebar Category Lists with active links for our Physicians/Staff on a site we’re developing. If one navigates from the Grid to a Profile then to another Profile via the sidebar Category List links. The “Back to directory” link on a profile does not do what the link text it says. Meaning, it will not go back to the grid, but will instead go back to the previously viewed physician profile.
http://67.225.129.146/~wnhhc/our-practice/our-physicians/
- we have the Category List (with links active) in the sidebar.
- if you click a Physician link in the sidebar and then click “Back to directory,” you will go back to the grid as intended
- if, while in the first physician’s profile you click another physicians’s name in the sidebar list, then click “Back to directory” you will instead land back on the first physician profile viewed
- if you navigate through a number of physician profiles via the sidebar category list link, each click of “Back to directory” will behave the same as a browser “back” button rather than a link back to the grid
The default language, “Back to directory” in this scenario is misleading, as one does not get back to the directory or grid without stepping one by one back through any profiles that have been viewed.
Hopefully that makes sense.
Is the “Back to directory” link supposed to behave this way? Is using the Category List along with Gridder and Profiles in this manner not an intended combination?
It seems logical to me that one might like to offer instant access to profiles without jumping back to the grid view and that the “Back to directory” link would get you there without backing up profile at a time.
Is there a way for us to overcome this?
Please let me know what you think. This same behavior is active on the other site we used Connections Pro in. That site is already live. So we are hoping there is a way to keep “Back to directory” as a direct link back to the grid view.

Keymaster@ Cole
Is short, yes, the back link actually is the same as the “Back” browser button. It is actually that way to cover a couple specific use cases. So, that said. I’ve been toying with the idea of removing that event handler for quite awhile. I made a couple minor logic changes that I think covers those while removing the current browser back button behavior. The best of both worlds, I hope. This tweak will be included in the next update which I’ll release tomorrow.
If this tweak has a negative side effects that I have not accounted for, I may have to reverse this change. In that event I have added a filter that can be hooked into to change this behavior too. So, one way or another, I think this will be resolved for you.
Hope that helps!
