GuestHi there –
Yesterday I was having trouble updating the site via the automatic process, but you were able to help me in a very timely fashion. However, since then, the Tile Plus (recently updated to v3) template’s navigation system seems to have broken.
From the site’s starting page everything works fine. If I click on the ‘2’ pagination button I’m taken to the next page via this URL http://pmkbnc.info/?cn-pg=2&page_id=77. However, if from this new page I click on the ‘3’ button (or any other one) I’m taken to a 404 page via this URL: http://pmkbnc.info/&cn-pg=3?page_id=77&cn-pg=2
What appears to be happening is that the URL is having the old page cn-pg variable appended to the end of the new URL.
Is there an existing fix for this or do you have any recommendations for fixing this issue?
Thanks so much for you help!
Sam

I am unable to replicate this issue and this must be a unique issue to your site as a lot of others would have the same issue. My first though maybe a plugin conflict. Have you checked for a plugin conflict or theme conflict? If you have, then I again will need a temp admin account so I can take a closer look.

I just notice that you said version 3.0.1. There very well could be a bug in that version of the template so updating it may fix the issue.
There is another possibility…
After giving those links your shared another look. The theme or maybe a plugin could be messing with the WordPress global
$wp_query->query. That could mess up the pagination URLs.02/04/2016 at 9:38 pm #363617Sam
GuestThanks for the quick reply, Steven. I actually don’t see the option to update the plugin on the plugins page.
This is all I see:
Connections Tile Plus – Template
Version 3.0.1 | By Steven A. Zahm | Visit plugin site
Is it possible to update it through a different means?
Thanks, Steven – your help is greatly appreciated!

re: I actually don’t see the option to update the plugin on the plugins page.
Tile Plus did not receive in admin update support until version 4.0 (current is 4.1, with 5.0 forthcoming). So you would not see the update in the admin. You have to download it from your purchase history. Seeing as 3.0.1 was released 04/03/2013 the support license expired sometime in 2014 for you so you would have to renew (at a 30% discount) before updating. If you do update you have to add your support license key to the Connections : Settings admin page under the Licenses tab in order to have support for in admin updates.
Now, that said. I’m not entirely convinced updating will resolve the issue because pagination support is handled by the core Connections plugin, not the template, so that code if current. And the code that actually handles the logic of the pagination links is a core WordPress function. This is why I said this issue must be unique to your site.
Like I mentioned, I’m thinking this is a theme\plugin conflict. Something messing with the WordPress
$wp_query->queryglobal var, something a theme/plugin should not touch directly but there are some many old and now obsolete tutorials out there that theme/plugins have copy/pasted that cause these weird edge case bugs.Hope that explains updating and what I think the cause of the bug is and why more clearly.
re: Here’s a temp admin if you’d like to check it out yourself
I tried logging, but the account is still a subscriber account so I do not have access to anything, not even the directory page (has a separate pass).

GuestThanks for the thorough explanation. That definitely makes sense.
I took your advice and deactivated all the plugins except Connections and the Tile Plus Template. I also switched to different themes, including vanilla wordpress twenty-fourteen. The problem persists regardless of the active plugins and / or theme.
I updated the account temp_admin account to administrator if you have the time to take another look.
I greatly appreciate your help, Steven! Sam

Hah! Apparently there was a bug. It likely went unnoticed because it would only show itself when not using pretty permalinks and only when the directory was on the page set as the WordPress front page. I had to add a specific check for this and account for it accordingly. I applied the fix to your site and now it works correctly. This fix will also be in the update I am releasing later today.
