Dunedin Council of Organizations
ParticipantMy website is for a member organization. I want to use the Entry Form to allow new members to add their information. I want them to be able to make their address, phone, email, etc. Public or Private. Some of our members are businesses, who want to display all their information to the public, and some are individuals who do not. Is there a way to display the Public/Private options in the Entry Form when a User is not logged in? I will be assigning their User ID after they submit the form, not before.
I have the directory set to public override so that private information can only be viewed by members who log-in, but the general public can see everything else.

ParticipantI will also be using the Link plug-in to allow members to edit their listings later on.

Sorry, no, for a user to see those options, they must be logged in.

From what I read so far… I suggest disabling this option as it is not needed under normal usage.
Hope that helps!

I was very confused by your advice that I did not need the public override — until I realized that I had been doing all my testing of the site while logged-in as the Site Admin. I spent hours trying to figure out why entries and information I set to Private were still displaying in the directory. I needed to be logged-out to view the changes to my site as a regular visitor would. That might be a helpful tip for new users of this plug-in. Knowing that would have saved me a lot of wasted time and frustration.

Thanks for the feedback! Where would you have liked to see that so it so it would have been more clear? I think it is a good tip and a best practice to always test while logged out too when you are working with content that is to be visible to depending on if the user is logged in or not. Personally, when I’m testing, I keep a private browser window open where I’m not logged in beside a window where I am logged in so I can see both at one.
