The image size is adjustable. Making a smaller image would allow more entries per row. The number per row also depends on the theme’s page content width. Here’s the doc page:

This is very likely the cause of javascript failing on your website. This is nearly always being caused by the theme or another plugin. Since you did not share a link to your directory page with me I am not able to give more specific advice than this…

Open the page in Chrome, hit the F12 key and then click the Console tab. All page rendering errors will be listed here as well as javascript errors. The file name may give you insight as to what is causing the error. If it does not, then mouse hover the cursor over the filename, the file path will then be shown. You can nearly always identify the plugin causing the error. After you do, deactivate the offending plugin and then the + sign should functions it should.

You do not choose. This is created from the bio field. You can choose the length of the excerpt. Here is a link to the doc page:

This is confusing because your first question said they are too large. Can you please provide more details and share a link to your directory page so I can see what you mean?

The pagination feature is off by default but can easily be turned on. Here is the link to the doc page:
