ParticipantNewly installed cMap to be able to use the map and category dropdown functions.
I am running the firmness theme. I have several plugins installed but none on the ‘incompatible with cMAp’ list.
I have the default Names template set as default for ‘ALL’ on the main directory page. I tried using the shortcode [connections enable_category_select='true'] on the main directory page but do not get the category dropdown. Is the shortcode only applicable to the cMap template? I thought having the cMap plugin installed would allow me to use it’s shortcodes throughout connections.
Second item, the map does not display on the cMap template pages. I have entered an address on the customer’s connection entry but the map shows blank. I do have another maps plugin installed (Ready! Google Maps) but I deactivated the plugin and the issue didn’t resolve. I’m clueless.
Any help for this noob would be appreciated.

Unfortunately many plugins and themes cause fatal javascript errors which is likely the issue you’re encountering. Can you please share a link to the page having the issue.re: I have the default Names template set as default for ‘ALL’ on the main directory page. Yes, it only works for templates which have support for the category drop down like cMap. It does not add it to all templates when a template is installed that does support the feature.re: Second item, the map does not display on the cMap template pages. I have entered an address on the customer’s connection entry but the map shows blank.
This issue can definitely be related to the first, a fatal javascript error. You can see if there’s an error. open the page in Chrome, hit the F12 key and then click the Console tab. All javascript errors. Generally the error that causes issues are ones that’ll say something about being undefined. On the far right the source file of the error will be listed. Mouseover the file name and the file path will show. The filename and path are strong indicator of the plugin or theme causing the error.
Again, if you share a link to the page in question, I’ll take look.

ParticipantThanks so much for the reply. I understand about the shortcode only working on the applicable template.
Regarding the other issue, I used Chrome and viewed the Console tab as you suggested and I did see an error on the page. Unfortunately I’m too much of a noob to know what it means :(.
Your offer of additional assistance is very generous. This is my page with the issues: http://menardchamber.com/business-directory/view/all/ The entry for Compton Warehouse should have a mapable location but I don’t get any map.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I see the issue. The template being used is the Default Card template. You need to go to the Connections : Templates admin page click the Individual template type and activate the cMap template and then do the same to the Organization template type.
So far your console log is clear of anything to worry about so that’s good news!
Hope that helps!

Great, I see that cMap is being used now. Question. Did you by chance disable the Google maps API option on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Advanced tab? If you did, can you please re-enable it?

ParticipantThanks for your patience. Yes, I had turned that option off because of my other Google Maps plugin. I re-enabled and now I have a map (geesh).
2 new issues – should I start a new post? The map I have doesn’t have a marker for the business location. Also when I click on the Show Map link the page jumps to the top and I have to scroll back down the page to the listing – is that expected?

ParticipantEdit to previous post, some maps have markers, some don’t (even with address listed). Some maps to keep the same location on the page when I expand the link, others do not.
I’m sure this is a simple thing also – really sorry to trouble you because of my inexperience.

No need to open another thread … I’m looking at your site right now.

The issue is very likely due to the Google Maps being included on the page twice. I see you have the Ready! Google Maps active. Can you please deactivate it? Or … if that plugin has an option to exclude including it on specific pages, try excluding it on the directory page. Really, the Ready! Google Maps plugin should only include the Google Maps API on pages it is actually being used on. That is the method I use to try to keep conflicts to a minimum.
