ParticipantHey, Steven –
I want the “boss” of this group to appear above a last name alpha sorted list. He is the last person now. How do I do it with field data or categories or tags or what?

Seeing as there are only a few entries, you could sort the entries in a specific order. See example 2 on the order_by doc page.
I hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks, Steven – this site has 6 lists – each on different pages. And, the lists will be changed as employees change, so using a ID numbers will require a lot of maintenance. Any other way to do ordering? What about adding a Custom Field and then sort on the Custom Field (and hide that field so it does not show up on the page)?

Participantsorry, just a bit more about that Custom Field. I could give all the bosses a “1” and all the employees a “2”, for example.

Right now it is not possible to sort by a custom field… it’s new feature so there is still more to do fledge out that feature.
Another solution, what others have done. They’ve used another field that is sortable and put their sort criteria in that field and then just hide that from being displayed on the front-end. It’s the only other way I can think of. One thing to keep in mind, the field will be sorted as a string, not a number, even if you put a number in the field. It is an important distinction because numbers sorted as strings can give you results you might not expect.
