GuestHello,
I am considering buying Connections in order to setup a directory for a group. I have been playing with the basic version and I have two questions.
My goal is to have each user input their own directory listing after they are logged into the site.
1. Do you have to manually enter the user into the wordpress user directory in order for them to login if you are using forms and link?
2. Is it possible to have a a login screen show below the Please login to view the directory?

If you goal is to have the user enter and maintain their entry then I highly suggest using Link and not Form at this time. If you want to use Form, the workflow has to be something like this:
- Enter their info into Form and submit. The user submitting an email address will be critical in order for Link to link a Connections entry and a user account.
- Complete some type of user registration process. You can use the built-in WordPress registration or a third party plugin. This so you would not have to manually create a user account.
- And then the user will have to login after registration in order for Link to link the entry and user account.
If you just use Link the work flow would be something like this:
- The user completes some type of user registration process. You can use the built-in WordPress registration or a third party plugin. This so you would not have to manually create a user account.
- You can use a user login redirection plugin to redirect the user to the Edit My Directory Entry admin profile page so the user can enter their info. An email address is not critical because a user entering their info on this page will automatically link the entry and the user account.
With all that said … I am working on Form 2.0 which is nearly complete, just needs some polish and Link 2.0. These when installed together will be far more integrated allowing front-end editing and maintenance of their entry while logged in. You would still have to have some type of user registration process.
The login screen below the please login message … I suggest using one of the many freely available login plugins that have a shortcode that places a login screen on the page. You can use that shortcode in the login required message settings.
I hope that thoroughly answers your questions!

GuestSteven,
Thanks for the reply. Are their any specific plugins that you recommend for both the user redirection or the login shortcode?

I use Peter’s Login Redirect on this site. Nothing fancy but does the job.
I’ve attached a Snippet that adds a login form shortcode. How to use…
Install the Code Snippets plugin.
Download and unzip the file attached to this reply.
Import the code snippet XML file, search.code-snippets.xml, into Code Snippets. See the FAQs on where to find the import feature.
Activate the newly imported snippet. You can then use the
[connections_login_form]to display a user login form. It’s simple … if you need something more feature rich this plugin by Pippin should be good.Attachments:
