ParticipantHello,
Is there a way to enable global search across the entire directory? My users have been confused with the search widget included with WordPress (on our portal landing page) and the search box on each of the directory category pages.
Best case scenario, I’d like the wordpress search widget to search the portal for posts and directory entries. Otherwise can the search box included on each of the directory category pages search the entire directory instead of the current category page?
I saw the search widget included in the Widget Pack you offered, but I was unsure how it works considering my request.
Thank you

Sorry, I do understand what you’re asking, but it can not be done.

ParticipantGot it, what exactly does the search widget from the widget pack do?

The search widget in the Widget Pack allows you to add a search directory widget to the theme’s sidebar. Functionally, it is the same as the search input on the directory page(s). One important difference, the results will be listed on the page set as the directory home page on the Connections : Settings admin page. The same goes for all the widgets in the Widget Pack.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantWill that search the entire directory? I’m fine with the global search to be on a different page as the individual categories.
Thanks!

You don’t really need it to see if it’ll work for you. Functionally it is exactly the same as the search above the result list in Tile Plus. It is just the placement that differs. It even has the same visual style. If you have the widget, you would see the widget in the sidebar as well atop of the Tile Plus results list. So, I would actually recommend disabling the search on the template.
If you want a feel for how it’ll work. I recommend creating a “Results” page and setting it as the directory home page. You would need to do this anyway for the search widget because ideally you wouldn’t want to use a shortcode that would limit results more than the key words entered by the user. So, on the “Results” page you would simply have
[connections]. [Tip, you could use a template other than Tile Plus on this page since the search widget works with all templates.] With Tile Plus active, enter you search keywords.Using the widget will be exactly the same, but since it is in the theme’s sidebar a user could search from any page in your site, land on the “Results” page with the list filtered by the keywords they entered.
I hope that helps!
