ParticipantHi Steven,
In the categories, is there a way to choose a Secondary Navigation like how you can in the WordPress Categories? A sidebar option would be nice too if that was possible!
Thanks

Not sure I understand, sorry … There is the Widget Pack, it includes a category widget that can be placed in the theme’s sidebar. Is that what you’re asking?
Also, you could use the WP Menu builder to create links to specific categories/cities/states/zips and countries.

ParticipantNo problem, let me see if I can explain a little clearer :)
I’m actually building a little bit of a complicated directory using many menus for different sections (8 in all) of the site.
For example I have a main design directory
http://www.funchkins.com/directoryI am now building a new section/page called New York design with its own directory, the menu is not complete, missing pages linking to specific Connections categories but you can get an idea
http://www.funchkins.com/directory/usa/newyork/The problem is that when someone uses the “search button” on the sidebar say for example to search for an entry called “Camper” in http://www.funchkins.com/directory/usa/newyork/, the search re-directs to the main “Directory Page”
Basically I want them to stay in the “New York” section and not be taken away to the main directory. The ideal way is to control the look is with a second navigation and choose specific menus and multiple sidebars.
For the rest of the site I have actually used custom sidebars and multiple menus which solves my problems similar to this, ie with pages.
Not sure if that explains it a little better???? :)

Ok, I see what you’re trying to do. The trouble you’re going to have is the search widget will always resolve to the directory home page. There’s not really a way around that if you want it to work on pages where there is no Connections shortcode.
May I suggest an alternative approach?
Create a directory search results page with
[connections]on it and set that as the directory home page and then addforce_home=TRUEto all the other pages that have the Connections shortcode on it. That way all links will now resolve to the directory search results page. That should provide your users with a consistent experience across your different directory pages. It could even be a little better for SEO. That would would really depend on how cross categorized the entries are. Because I know duplicate content is weighted negatively. But I’m not an expert in this area.
Do you think that’ll work for the results you want?

ParticipantHi Steven,
Sorry for delay in getting back, it would work, I tried it out. The only problem is that when you look at my page I actually have two domains and also I use Multisite on the travel, so this complicates things somewhat as I have different “Connections”.
What I will probably do is just use the search in the shortcode that allows you to search within a page/category. This will suffice for now.
One last question regarding this though, when I select the drop down category and search, the display is fine
http://funchkins.travel/capetown/travel-directory/accommodation/But when I take the drop down category out of the shortcode and just leave the search, the search button buts up against the entry
http://funchkins.travel/capetown/travel-directoryHow do I get the search box to display just a little above the first entry?
Thanks

Looks like you have to add a bit of CSS to the theme’s style.css file, or if the theme has one, its custom CSS area.
#cn-cmap .cn-search { padding-bottom: 10px; }That should add a nice little space. Adjust if you want more or less.

ParticipantHi Steven,
That’s great, thanks for your quick reply as usual!
All the best

ParticipantSorry just one last thing about the CSS, would you have the code so as not to have the long drop down box as seen in the link below, basically how do I make it shortened as it should show?
http://www.funchkins.com/directory/
Thanks

Seems the theme defaults form inputs to 100%. To override that, use the add the following CSS:
#cn-cmap form.cn-form select.cn-cat-select { width: auto ! important; }That should fix it.

ParticipantThat worked perfectly :)
Thanks
