GuestCurrently, I have 3 categories set up which will hold entries for different businesses. I want two categories to show up in the category list above a more general “Outside the Area” category, but one of those “featured” categories “Shavano Park,” which obviously comes after “Outside the Area” if listed in alphabetical order. I know you can order entries themselves by category id, but can you force the category order to show up on the left in a more custom order?
I want the category list to display like so:
• Castle Hills
• Shavano Park
• Outside the AreaAnd in the future if more categories are added, I’d still like to have “Castle Hills” and “Shavano Park” display as the first two categories in the category list.

There is not a built in method to custom order the categories. I do have an alternative solution.
Disable the category sidebar in Market.
Go to the Menu admin page and create a new menu, named anything you wish.
Then add custom URL/s to the menu, one for each category. For example:http://www.castlehillsshavanoparkba.org/member-directory/cat/castle_hills/
http://www.castlehillsshavanoparkba.org/member-directory/cat/shavano_park/
http://www.castlehillsshavanoparkba.org/member-directory/cat/outside_the_area/Finally go to the Widgets admin page and add the Custom Menu widget to your sidebar, selecting the custom menu you just created.
You could use a plugin such as Widget Logic or Widget Context to show that widget only when on the directory page.
Hope that helps.
