ParticipantWhen I click on a category in the business directory, it’s hit or miss whether or not it will show results (It usually works at first, but when you keep searching, it disables). There also seems to be a connection between searching within the business directory (which also gives me No Results) and then searching under the drop down menu for a category. As soon as I try a search in the search bar, it seems to disable the drop down category list all together, and I’ll get “No Results” for everything I try.
I’ve already checked the settings of for search within the admin–>connections–> settings–> Search Tab, and have all the search types (search by first name, last name, city, etc) checked. I changed themes twice and tested it- same issues. I’ve cleared my cache on WP and my browser, I’ve tested it on different browsers and mobile devices.
How can this be fixed?
The url is: http://192.185.3.28/~abicco/members-directory/
Thank you.
Thank you.

I browsed around for quite while; seems to work fine. When you get a no results and changing categories, do you have a search term entered? If you do, you will be filtering by the term and the category. So if you switch a category with a search term you will still be filtering by that term and if that term is not within the current category selection you will get no results.
I hope that helps.

ParticipantYes, that makes sense. Thanks.
Now I’m trying to make the category drop down list bigger – especially so it’s easier to tap on small mobile devices. I was able to make the font bigger:
#cn-cmap .cn-entry {font-size: 16px !important;}but haven’t been able to figure out how to increase the space between categories and increase the line height so the words aren’t on top of each other. Also, I would like to make the whole thing bigger on larger devices so the words don’t wrap as much. I tried:
element.style{width:60% !important;} It worked on Firebug but it doesn’t work when I add it to my stylesheet. Please advise.
Thanks.03/20/2014 at 12:07 pm #282904Steven Zahm

Honestly I have not played with the styling of the enhanced drop down much at all. It is applied by a third party library.
Adding the following should fix the line height:
#cn-list .chzn-container ul.chzn-results li.active-result { line-height: 100% !important; }And this might adjust the min width:
#cn-cmap form.cn-form select.cn-cat-select { min-width: 60% !important; }I say might, because the with of the drop down is calculate and applied by the third party library after the page has loaded. It uses the CSS width from the drop down it is enhancing which is currently set at a min-width of 250px. So the only way to know is to apply the CSS and cross the fingers.
After you make CSS changes make sure to force refresh you browser and clear the page/css caches if you’re using a caching plugin.
Hope that helps!

GuestThe line height worked- that made all the difference. Thank you.

ParticipantHi Steve,
Sorry to jump in on this thread but we have a similar comment. When I decrease the size of the browser screen the category search is responsive up to a point and then stops being responsive. Is there a way of making it responsive?

I’ve tried adjusting the width but couldn’t get it to work. I noticed that most of the responsive css code has been commented out.05/01/2014 at 9:55 am #289828Steven Zahm

It is being caused by the theme, specifically the width being set in this file. Here’s the relavent section of code:
input, select, textarea { background-color: #fff; border: 1px solid #ddd; color: #999; font-size: 14px; font-size: 1.4rem; font-weight: 400; padding: 16px; padding: 1.6rem; width: 100%; }To fix it, you’ll have to override that width. Here’s how to do it in an update safe way with 0.8.x:
Create a new text text file using Notepad and save it with the following contents named as
cn-custom.css.#cn-cmap form.cn-form select.cn-cat-select { max-width: 100%; }Login to your site using FTP and go to this folder:
../wp-content/uploads/Create a new folder named:
connections-templates.Upload the
cn-custom.cssto theconnections-templates.That should do it.

GuestHi Steve
I have had numerous issues with the search text box and drop-down. For example, being a church website, we have a number of congregations with names like St George’s…; St Giles…
If I search using “St Giles” – I get no result.
If I search using “St” – I get no result.
If I search using “Giles” – then I get a result. Why is that?
Please help. Your feature is the most used on our website.Regards

The first thing you should try is to configure the search so it can give you results more to you liking. This can be done on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Search tab. The first thing you should try is disabling the Keyword search option and use only the FULLTEXT searching. If your setup supports this, it can give far better results. If your database does not support FULLTEXT, you’ll get no results when performing a search and unfortunately, you’ll have to use the keyword search feature, sort of. Most of the time, you can make changes to the database to enable FULLTEXT. Maybe your host can make the change for you, if not, here’s a link to a Google search that should get you on your way:
https://www.google.com/#q=phpmyadmin+fulltext
As for searching just
St, that is a database issue, one I can do nothing about. Most databases are configured to require 3–4 characters for a search.I hope that helps!
