ParticipantHi I have cmap template, its a small directory with most categories having 1 or 2 entries only. I set the default number to display to 4 per page as I want to keep compact, and I have display set to random so businesses beginning with A don’t always get prime spot, [connections image=photo image_fallback=block str_image="No Photo Available" str_work_email='Email' str_work_phone='Phone' addr_format='%line1% %line2% %line3% %city%, %zipcode%' enable_map=false page_limit=4 show_empty_categories='false' order_by='id|RANDOM' ]
Problem I have is in the 3 categories with more than 4 entries where the results are split over several pages.
If I have category count displaying it shows for example (9) when you select cafes,(there are 9 so that is correct) you then get 9 listings over 3 pages but some entries are repeated and consequently some are not shown at all so one business may be on pages 1 2 and 3 and some business don’t appear – if I remove random and go back to alphabetical 9 different ones show so files seem OK. Have I used the shortcode correctly or is there something I should be doing for random to only include each entry once?11/04/2013 at 11:13 am #272951Steven Zahm

Yes, there seems to be a bug with randomization … I even had it marked in the code as a todo to fix and I forgot about it. Basically I need to seed the random value so pagination is properly supported. The “downside” is random will not be every page load, it’ll be once an hour. I’ll see if I can get that addressed in the 0.8 release due out by mid to late Nov.

GuestThanks Steve, I find the feature useful so that businesses beginning with A don’t keep getting to top of list.
I’ll await update

I just fixed this. The fix will be part of the 0.8 version.
It’ll be randomized based on the visiting user’s IP address and time. The results will be randomized on the hour per IP. For example, you visit your site from work, you’ll see the same results until the hour changes. After the hour changes, the results will be re-randomized. A site visitor visiting your site at the same time would see a different random results list which would refresh on the hour. At the hour change you and that site visitor would see different random results which would be the same until the hour changes.
Hope that makes sense.
