ParticipantThe labels in my cards are wrong and/or I would like to change them. It’s a littel difficult for me to know how to proceed, because it seems that the language version isn’t quite working properly.
For instance:
Label: Hjemme
Label: Cell
Label: Biography‘Hjemme’ means ‘home’. This label is the same in the backend. I have tried using the Say What plugin: hjemme -> xxx, but this does not work. It still says ‘Hjemme’ both in the Backend and on the site.
‘Cell’ is the mobile phone. However, in the backend it’s call ‘mobiltelefon’ as it should (in Danish). So, if the Say What plugin did work – what should I use to change it? I would think ‘mobiltelefon’ > ‘xxx’, but I am not sure if it’s the original label names or the translated ones….
Please help me change the labels to whatever I would like…

ParticipantI can see this help in the QuickTips, but I don’t know how to find the string names to change:
Every string in a template can be customized to suit your specific needs. This can be done by setting template enabled shortcode options. These string shortcode options all begin with “str_”. Every template differs on what strings are available to be customized, please refer to the template’s documentation [currently under construction] to learn more. But here’s a couple examples that will work across most templates.

ParticipantLet me just add that I would like to change the naming both in the backend and on th ecards on the site…

ParticipantAh! It looks like for instance [connections str_cell_phone='xxxxx'] does the job…

ParticipantMaybe just delete this post? – I guess the solution was to be found in the theme options page:

If you want to change the label on both the frontend and admin, then using Say What is the better option. The trick is you must use the English as the original string, not the translated string. Counterintuitive I know, but there’s nothing I can do about that, it is just how it works.
So what you would have to do it is switch WordPress back to English, copy the original English strings, use Say What? to change them and then switch back to your preferred language in WordPress.
Now, the absolute best option, is to correct the strings in Transifex. When they are fixed there, they will be included in all updates. Read more here:

Hope that helps!

ParticipantThe Say What? plugin only changes the backend, right?
So, I would need to use both the Say What? plugin AND short code adjustments, like [connections str_cell_phone='Mobile']. Right?
I think it would be a very useful (and pretty standard) adjustment of Connections to make it possible to change the labels easily within the plugin settings.

re: The Say What? plugin only changes the backend, right?
No, it changes it everywhere the string is used within Connections. If the template has a shortcode option, it will override any changes made by Say What? OR the shortcode option exists because it is a string is template specific and is needed because Say What would have no effect.re: So, I would need to use both the Say What? plugin AND short code adjustments, like [connections str_cell_phone='Mobile']. Right?
No, you can simply use Say What? in this case. You only need to use the shortcode in this instance if you want to override the default template text or override the custom string applied Say What? (if one was added).re: I think it would be a very useful (and pretty standard) adjustment of Connections to make it possible to change the labels easily within the plugin settings.
Sorry, no. This feature will not be added to Connections. And it is not at all standard for a plugin to make all its strings as settings. That would make plugin very bloated and slow.Ideally if you want labels and such in your preferred language, you would translate those strings in Transifex or do it locally using Poedit. That is the standard method for WordPress, theme and plugins for internationalization and localization.
Templates have shortcode options for their strings because there are strings that are template specific which can not be translated as part of Connections because they are a separate plugin. Adding template and extension specific strings to Connections would only serve to bloat the core Connections plugin. That said… templates some of the templates have been converted to be translation ready so Say What? can be used as well as translation via Poedit. The shortcodes for the template that have been converted are still in place to provide backwards compatibility and still allow the option to change the labels to something other than what was tranlated.
Hope that helps!

ParticipantThanks!
However, it’s not working for me.
I used Say What? to change: Biographical Info > xxx.
In the backend it has changed, but on the site, it reads ‘Biography’.
I also read this post from you, saying that Say What only works in the backend….So, I read in another post this from you:
If you’re trying to change the “show Bio” … then my instructions
change a bit because that depends on the version you’re using.Versions >= 4.1: Use Say What? but since this is a template specific
string you need to use the text domain cnt_cmap instead of
connections. What text domain should I use in order to change labels in the Slim Plus template? And how would I find that out myself?
PS: It would be good with some QuickTips describing this…

ParticipantBy the way, in this post you state the following. That got my confused. Your support is fantastic, but there is so much information floating around on this forum. It would be great with even more tutorials…
re: I will also need to rename them
This can be done pretty easily,
see this QuickTip. This basically would only affect the admin add/edit
entry form though.http://connections-pro.com/support/topic/import-complete-but-entries-not-added/
