ParticipantI am creating a directory of “families” (they are really churches) and each “family” has “relations” (they are really job titles). I used “Say What?” plug-in to change the name of the labels for relation types.
For categories, I have “churches” and “individuals.” Once I’ve created a family church, I add individuals as relations. I don’t want to use categories for the job titles because I want each individual linked to a home church.
I need a way to display a list of each relation type, etc. just a list of Pastors, or just a list of Treasurers, etc.
I tried several variations of the following, but every time I get all the individuals, regardless of their relationship type:
[connections str_work_phone='Office Phone' str_work_addr='Street Address' str_other_addr='Mailing Address' category='7' show_family=true member_group='treasurer' enable_category_select=FALSE]or if it’s a multiple word relationship type:
[connections str_work_phone='Office Phone' str_work_addr='Street Address' str_other_addr='Mailing Address' category='7' show_family=true member_group='clerk-of-session' enable_category_select=FALSE]Please help! This is a key way people in our region will reach each other. Thank you!

Well, one issue is that there is no
member_groupshortcode option. Perhaps that option belongs to another shortcode. I’m assuming you’re trying to usemember_groupto display a list of individuals within a church (family) assigned a specific title (relationship), correct?Another issue… there is not a way to do this using families because of the way the relationships data is saved in the database there is no way to make queries based on them.
I’ve thought about this for quite a bit, the only way I can think of doing this is by using categories.

ParticipantYour assumption is correct. :) I was attempting to use member_group to display individuals the family. I did consider using categories when I set it all up. I went back and forth. But I really wanted to be able to see the people in each church because they are the key contacts.
I will add this to the feature requests. I think if you can show the people in the family, you should be able to show which family the people belong to. :)
Thanks for the quick response.

re: I think if you can show the people in the family, you should be able to show which family the people belong to.
Actually since the data is stored as serialized data in the “family” entry record in the db, there is no way to query the db to show which family each individual entry is related to. In order to do the the db schema would have to be changed in order to be able to do this “reverse” lookup.
I did add this to the feature request lists in my tracker.

ParticipantThanks. I figured that the whole backend would have to change to be able to do the reverse lookup. It sure would be nice though…
thank you!
