    @ Joe

What you’re looking for is the Link extension and, optionally, the Form extension.

    Hope that helps!

The template was based off of cMap, it is not cMap because it was customized to meet their requirements. If you know a bit of PHP you could create a custom template override file.

    I hope that helps!

Let me know when your site directory goes live … I’ll link to it.

I just updated the Say What Quicktip to include a mention about its new field with a new screen capture. Thanks for highlighting that discrepancy.

re: Frankly, none of the above works.
Lots of people use these methods. They do work.

If you are copy/pasting the examples from the web page into the WP Visual tab on the post editor, that is going to cause you trouble. That’s not a Connections issue, it is just the way it works. Either manually type the options or paste them while in the Text tab on the post editor.

Switch the post editor to the Text tab and remove any HTML that is inside the shortcode.

I mention this, because looking at your page again … it looks like the shortcode options are broke due to HTML being pasted in. This breaks the WordPress Shortcode processing. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do about it. The same goes for all other plugins when working with their shortcodes. I say this because instead of an email label is see, str_work_email=.

If you didn’t copy paste, then there must be a typo. If you reply back with the exact shortcode as you have as it is now and I’ll correct it for you.

re: our example looks nothing like the current plugin, there is an extra field to populate the you don’t discuss.
The additional field in Say What?, that’s new. Just leave it blank.

re: It would be so much easier if you had a 5th choice for all these labels – NONE!
You said you wanted to remove Work from the labels, you didn’t say you want to remove the labels. It is an important distinction. to remove the labels, use this shortcode:

    [connections addr_format="%line1% %line2% %line3% %city%, %state% %zipcode% %country%" phone_format="%number%" email_format="%address%" link_format="%title%"]

re: I’m really finding that this plugin is not as easy as you have described it to be. Very frustrated.
Just about all of it is plug and play … all options are optional. The advanced shortcode options are there for those that want to tweak. They are not necessary to be used at all. Better to have the advanced options than, not, yes?

Question for you, a new template launched the other day, Gridder. I tried something different with its doc page. Do you find its doc page easier to understand?

re: Is the idea that if there are changes to such entires that users need to email an admin with the updated details?
No, not really. Connections dos keep track of who added an entry and who last edited it but there is no built in method to give or restrict the users ability maintain only the entries they added (assuming they have permission to add entries). The idea is to eventually add this ability via an extension which has not yet been developed. I do have one that needs a bit more work and some additional testing to do the exact opposite, link a single entry to multiple users so all linked users have permission to edit the same entry.

Checkout this QuickTip. You can use the method outlined to change strings throughout Connections and other plugins in an update safe way. This includes the the labels you want to change.

There are some template specific string which can only be changed in cMap with a few shortcode options. Please see this FAQ. The complete list of str_***** shortcode option can be found on the doc page for cMap. You’ll notice you can even change the labels using shortcode options. If you use those options, they would even override the strings changes that can be done with Say What? in the QuickTip.

    Hope that helps!

@ cidcreative Which version of cMap do you have installed? Responsive theme support was added to the newest versions.

The issue was that the irish beer image was huge … when Connections was trying to create the thumbnail the image size would cause PHP to run out of memory and just stop processing the page.

I downloaded the original image and reuploaded a smaller version. All is good now!

    @ Cara-Dee

Ok, so it sounds like you can indeed add new entries… that’s good.

re: When saving an entry it highlights the surname field in red indicating the it is compulsory. i am currently using a full stop in the surname field as a quick fix. Is there a proper solution for this and do you know why it wold all of a sudden do this after a wordpress update?
This was a long standing bug that was finally fixed within Connections. An entry added as an Individual, the first and last name are the minimum required fields to be entered and if the entry type is Organization the org name is required. Before Connections would still work, but with changes in 8.1 and greater it is 100% necessary to have them so they are required.

re: i am currently using a full stop in the surname field as a quick fix.
Not sure what you mean by this, but the last name is a required field, this was a bug that was fix in Connections 8.1 and greater. Connections will require this field before an entry can be added.

re: Since doing the wordpress update, i am unable to select more than 2 categories per entry. If I add an entry with the following categories it works: (note that parent categories are selected too in each case)

    • What is the exact shortcode you are using on the directory page?
    • What are the category ID numbers for the categories you named in your last reply?
