I’m not able to replicate this. Which version of Connections and Slim Plus do you have installed? Can you share a link with the page that has the issue?

re: Does this make more sense?
Yes, perfectly.
Create a new page. The name of the page is not relevant but should applicable.
The content of this new page should be the
[connections]shortcode and nothing else.Save the page and take note of the page ID, You’ll need it. You can find it in the browser address bar as part of the URL.
Go to your original directory page and add the home_id shortcode option. You shortcode on the page should look something like this:
[connections home_id="n"]Save the page.
No when the links in the directory are clicked, they will resolve to the new page.
Hope that helps!

re: Now I’m not understanding what the Cmap can do further then, although it seems essential for our website being a Chamber of Commerce.?? Please just say Yes, or NO, LOL
oh my, lol… how do I answer just with, yes or no… How about I keep it to a really simple answer…
Essential, no. recommended, yes.
re: What I meant about package was wondering if any of the premium extensions contained all the silly things I/we needed all in one place.
Ahh, I understand now… the Pro Pack is what you’re looking for.
Hope that helps!

re: For Forms, I think people will be able to go to our web site and add themselves to the directory?
If you are referring to the Form extension, that is correct.
re: Is there a way for them to automatically be approved, or do they have to go into a “queue” for approval?
Sorry, no, the submissions must be approved manually.
re: Also, for Search, is there a way to make a pull-down list to use as a search? I would like to have a list of Countries, and the visitor to pull down a list and do a search for all the members in that Country.
The only built in way of doing this would be to add the countries as categories than any of the premium templates can be use to allow the use to filter the results by category/(country).
re: And for List, does this show a limited number of members with pagination?
The free template which comes with Connections does not offer pagination. You would need one of the premium templates.
Hope that helps!

I’m assuming you’re are using the Default Entry Card template which comes with Connections, yes? You have a couple options… first I would suggest you create categories for each region and then edit your entries and assign them to the correct categories. after you do that, you can use any of the premium templates or the category widget which comes as part of the Widget Pack. This will allow your users to select which category/region they want to view.
Hope that helps!

The core WordPress search is for searching thru its own pages/posts which is why many plugins provide their own searches just like Connections does. There is not a way to integrate with the WordPress core search so it can provide data entered in Connections, sorry.

re: The robots.txt is just a standard to request search engines etc not to index certain directories, so google etc would comply but this doesn’t change anything in the way of actually accessing the file.
Correct.
re: The .htaccess entries basically prevent any files from being listed in the connections-images folder (and sub-folders I’m assuming?). So this is something enforced by the web server / host right?
Correct.
re: if someone already knew the full URL of the image file, that is not blocked right?
Correct, the URL needs to be publically available in order for it to be displayed by the browser.
re: if someone was determined enough and simply knew a persons firstname/lastname and the directory structure of the plugin they would be able to access the image file
They would also need to know the exact name of the image file. If you use the
.htaccessto block directory listing, there would be now way for someone to see the file names so they would not be able to guess the file name unless you name them with names that are easily guessable, like first and last name.re: Is there any further way around this to restrict these images to be provided to logged in members only or this is a bit difficult?
Upload your images with unguessable file names.
Hope that helps!

re: With our current form I am not able to put logos in
What do you mean by “our current form“? Are you using the Form extension? If you are, you need to go to the Connections : Settings admin page and enable the Logo field under the Form tab.
OR…
Are you asking in regards to the admin add/edit form? There definitely is a way to add the logo. If you do not see it, perhaps your turned it off by accident. To turn it back on, click the Screen Options tab in the upper right and re-enable it.
re: do we need the Cmap template for the ability to put more information in there?
Sorry, not sure I understand? Can you provide more detail? Hmmm…. maybe you mean display a logo that was uploaded??? You can display that using the Default Entry Card template. Go to the Connections : Templates admin page and click the Customize button for the Default Entry Card template. Navigate to the Image panel in the Customizer on the left and choose the Logo as the image type.
re: Is there a total package you would recommend rather than these 3 individuals ones?
There is no “total package”. Connections, like many, many, other premium plugins sell extensions, add ons, to enhance — add features, to the free core plugin. Even free plugins such as bbPress and BuddyPress follow this method. This allows keeping the plugin as slim as possible and to let users add only the feature they need. Hope that makes sense.

My guess is the theme is floating inputs, by default inputs are not floated. That said, this works for be:
#cn-form .address-country, #cn-form .address-geo { display: none; }Best guess without knowing what exactly is affecting the layout is to add this:
#cn-form .address-region { clear: both }Hope that helps!
