re: is it possible to hide certain categories from the Form?

Sorry, not, not really. The only way this would be possible right now is to edit the PHP file for Form.

re: one can’t make a field (ie, address) “Private”, even though there’s a visibility section. It’s basically stuck on “Public”, without the option to “undo” that selection.

Right. The user can only select the visibility options to which they have permissions (capabilities) to see. If they were to set a phone number to private but not have the permission to view it, they would also not have the permission to edit it. It is a deficiency in the permissions that was grafted on top of the core plugin that I have not yet come up with a decent way to fix.

    Hope that helps!

re: Might I be able to rewrite the URL so each directory listing link point to a single directory entry?

Yes, home_id is till the solution to use…

On the /stay/ page use this shortcode where n is the page ID for the /directories/ page:

    [connections home_id=n]

And on the /directories/ page simply use just the [connections] shortcode, nothing else, no options.

    Hope that helps!

Ok… did you by chance enable either of the Shortcode Visibility Overrides under the Display tab? If you did, make sure they are both disabled.

    No problem!

If I have not yet asked and you have a moment, I would truly appreciate a review as they really do make a difference. Many thanks in advance!

re: how to hide specific categories from drop down?

If you are using cMap, you can use the exclude_category shortcode option. Or you could use the category shortcode option. Which you would use really depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

re: i want to know if there is a way to change the order of the categories instead of the default alphabetical order.

The Custom Category Order extension allows you to define a custom order.

    Hope that helps!

re: Out of curiosity, do you know why it now decided to conflict when before there was no issue?

Well, it is possible an update to the theme added this CSS change. It possible that if this has always existed in the theme that CSS from another plugin was overriding it which “fixed” and an update from that other changed their CSS which no longer “fixed” it.

Another thought, is the map did not exist in versions of Tile Plus before 4.1. So if you recently updated Tile Plus from an older version, this would be the first time the map would have been “broken”.

At any rate, The next version of Connections has a CSS tweak which should help prevent theme’s from setting max-width on the Google Maps image tiles.

This is not a hack, actually. This advanced shortcode option was developed for another reason entirely. It just also happens to be useful for those that put static text on their directory page. I’ve been supporting users for years with Connections and it is really a small minority that add static text and of those there are those that want the static text because it suits their needs.

As for appearing being too critical… not at all! Feedback is always very welcomed. Fresh eyes offer fresh perspective which is truly useful. You know how difficult it can get to see things when you’re too close to something.

Now, contrary to what I’ve literally just said… I will very likely at some point do this preparing and stripe all page content except the shortcode (or something) but not because of the static text. I’m finding more and more uses seems to be putting the shortcode on the page more than once and then wonder why they have repeated entries when they click on an entry link. This causing me to have to explain the home_id shortcode option over and over again. I do shudder at the thought of spending the next three or more years (exaggeration, maybe) explaining why the static text disappears.

I just doubled checked the QuickTip to make sure it still works and it does for me. The only other reason it would not work is that there was a copy/paste error. Try copy/pasting it again making sure to carefully to select all the code.

The setup described appears correct but it seems the Login Required option on the Connections : Settings admin page under the General tab is not enabled and it should be for the setup you want.

    Hope that helps.

Sounds like you have an older version of Connections installed. cMap 5.0 requires Connections 8.4 or newer. I recommend updating to the latest version 8.4.4.

    Hope that helps!
